Which one to choose?
I've been flying jets since 2000.
We just lost our field this fall, don't know what we will wind up with for a field.
I'm looking for a simple, easy to land and fly from grass and small fields.
Considering Boomerange, Turbinator, Reaction 54 etc.
I have a Wren 100, 22 lbs thrust I would put in it.
Would like opinions from guys who have flown or seen these planes fly.
What other possibilities are there in this type jet?
Thanks

Here is what Ive seen and experienced.
I have the Boomerang Torus, its tough as nails and loves grass fields, but needs more than 22 lbs for "Jet" performance.
Had the composite Reaction, once again nice on grass, started out with 22 lb turbine and it was fine but was happier when I moved it up to 28lbs.
Have seen many of the wood Reactions fly, 22lb motor performs well on the airframe.
Have some friends with the Boomerang Elan, and seen many others fly, cant hardly go wrong with one.
I always have had a hankering to try a Turbinator, those Ive seen would do the job nicely.
I just maidened a buddy's V2 Tornado couple of weeks back. With the Dreamworks trailing links and a older 20lb Rabbit it does just fine on grass and goes like stink.
And then their is the new kid on the block, the Ripmax Xcaliber. Ive actually got one on order that will get a new 22lb Rabbit and should be a great short, grass field machine. I am building this so i can take it to the field in the back of the truck rather than pulling my trailer. You might have to inquire as to if the WREN will fit okay as i think the interior is intentionally sized for nothing larger than small block 100's.
Let us know what you do.
Good luck and take care,
Mike

The Xcalibur/Wren 100 combo works out very well and gives good short field performance....Take's off within 40 meters and the supplied TL legs also work well on less than perfect fields. Wren 100 drops straight in.

I have the Boomerang Sprint & really like it's flying characteristics, but have a few reaction 54's at my field, & they are really FAST! & slow!.. If transport space is an issue, the boomerang will break down & fit into any car, but if it's not an issue, I would get the Reaction.

I have a reaction and Ultra Flash.
Ultra Flash any day.
UF is Just as easy to fly
Lands as slow as the reaction
Way more fun to fly than the reaction (but hey that is my opinion )
Paul.

The only bad thing about the Terminator and Reaction, is the need for a 'tailpipe' for starting.
Hate to have to carry more equipment along.
Otherwise, I agree, the conventional type plane look better.
One of my main concerns is being able to slow it down good for landing.
If we get a new field, I don't know how flying conditions will be?
Want to ready for whatever we wind up with.

Not necessarily. If you trust your engine... there is a very small chance that you will get flames large enough to cause damage. AND... in the case of a VERY wet start... you could damage the airframe of an internal mounted engine too.
I have a Falcon 120 and a Shock jet. I generally don't carry a starting pipe with me. Just make sure the underside is covered in aluminum tape, and have a co2 extinguisher handy.

If there's a hot start the the heat/flames will come up around the sides and not just be contained to the underneath, but I agree completely that once your engine is dialed in and starting correctly there's little of no need for a pipe.
I suspect that the composite Reaction coils be too heavy for a grass field with the 22lb engine, but a wood one would probably be the best of the lot. The wing is huge, it's light, and 22 lbs is gonna give you excellent t/o and climb performance. The Turbinator ARF (my most recent addition, only because I don't have time to build a Reaction this winter) is close to the same weight and has a smaller wing than the Kit Reaction, but should still do well at most fields.

What do you power the Falcon 120 with?
