question on landing a heavy 1/8 scale f-16
I am getting closer to being finished on my jet, it’s an older advanced gear 1/8 FEJ f-16. Getting really excited for spring to come so I can actually work with one of the turbine mentors and learn the habits of the Jet. I was talking to a guy about the plane and telling him it’s a heavy plane (about 28lbs) and will probably have to land fast. He asked if it had flaps, I told him no, and we both agreed flaps would help it slow down a little and keep its lift. I started thinking,,,,I know that with My dx18 I could set it up so that on my final approach, I could flip a switch and it would change to a flaperon setup, the ailerons would act as flaps, I could then set the elevator halves up as tailerons, and still have my vertical control and roll. Has anyone tried this before? I have read where a lot of guys were flying f-16s on a taileron setup anyway never even using ailerons. I know I have not landed it yet, it may not be an issue, but it got me thinking, Im just curious about it? I figured if the plane ended up being a real bear to land this may help. Or it may be a crazy Idea?

Hi, here's my first jet, an F-16 with P-60SE and full time flaperon and taileron; the landing is with flaps deployed, wheels still about two feet off the ground. However, I think CG probably has even more to do with how a jet lands.

Looking forward to taking the plane out,,, have yet to weigh it,, It wont be a lightweight even with the tams pipe, right now I am still fighting the gear, one cylinder is leaking, and the right side main wont extend,, something to do with the locking pin,, gonna give it a few more tries and then I am just going to look into having them converted to electric, I dont want to be in a position where I have to worry is the gear gonna come down,.

Mines a 1/8th advanced FEJ flew it two weeks ago flying standard set up ailerons elevator, as someone has stated just be prepared to keep the power on lots of drag when gear is down when turning onto finals this was where i nearly got caught out thought too high to fast eased power off as doing final turn in, ended up back on power but TBH once on finals right balance of power and it lands a treat, two pics one was powering out after a practice approach, flies great on Merlin 100 totally transformed after trying it on Wren supersport, also AUW approx 28 pounds with tanks full.

Im curious about this topic
Im almost done with my Byron F16 conversation with AMT 180
I was thinking of setting my up as tail alrons and have my ali work regular. But have them go down 10mm for take off and 15mm for landing. At 15mm they still can move to control roll.
Has anyone else ever done this?

I have 3 f16's and all are set up with flaperons for landing. I only use around 10-12 mm flap for landing and it helps a lot with generating lift and washout at low speeds. Definitely the way to go as it feels a lot more stable. Upon brake application, both flaperons go full up deflection and act as spoilerons to dump lift from wing....really plants the jet on the ground and it stops very quickly if necessary.
