I've just bought an older Merlin 140 with gas start.

I've done a bit of research, and am I right in saying the turbine itself is the same now as the older versions? I realise everything is in build with brushless motors but max thrust, spool up/down times weight...is it the same performance?

Todays 140's have brushless starters and pumps, internal valves and thermocouple and work on the three wire bus system. Performance will be the same.

Great motor Martyn.. M140 is super reliable and powerful.

I purchased mine in 2010 as part of the first batch manufactured. Yours must have been ordered especially as gas start. Kero start was standard equipment at the time it was first released. Enjoy..
