Have not seen a Shockwave post in a while, so I just wanted to post a shout out to this awesome jet. I had mine at the recent First in Flight jet event and I just love how this bird flys!!! Amazing slow speed performance and is such a cream puff to land. I was flying my parkzone radian with my 8 year old boy recently and was thinking that the Shockwave is easier to land (my little boy kept saying..."I am ready to fly your jets daddy", lol !!!!).

A new Shockwave is being worked on at "The Rocket Factory".. It looks awesome can't wait to take delievery...
Its powered by Jets Munt M200XBL, C50 Electric Behotech retracts and brakes, MKS servos, Unilight afterburner , and other neat stuff...

Reliability on my Behotec electrics has been flawless. Only problem was self induced by how I did the nose strut and door - had too many door issues with my extended length door so I ended up eliminating it and made a slotted cover plate.

Mine's still happily going along. It's a really tough plane and now has a couple more dents after a bearing collapse on the turbine sent some blades through the side of it, lol. Now running a new Jetcat 220 instead with the BMS so running small batteries and don't have to charge anything anymore - it's brilliant. First flights were pretty tail heavy as a result of loosing the fuel pump up front and reducing the size of the battery packs but it just went to show what a massive CG range the plane will handle.
Had a few issues with the Airtech gear having leaks so went over to the IQ hammer main gear units instead which seem to be holding up a lot better.

Behotec gear install
Here are some pics of the Behotec gear installed in David's Shockwave.
Nose gear is 95 deg. The mains have had the wheel offset increased to fit the wheel wells better. Many thanks to Peter at Altecare for working with us on this.
Oh, please excuse the untidiness. What's shown is the initial fitting. Everything still needs a bit of work

I had a quick question. just getting back to my Shockwave build and wanted to add a scale pilot. What's the best scale size most have used... 1:4 or 1:5? I didn't want just a tiny head in there or the opposite. Just thought I'd add a little more scale to the cockpit.... Rob

Thought I'd share the new scheme on my first Shockwave that I got at JOK a couple years ago. After numerous flights, I had a mishap last year that was repaired and been flying with primer areas. Original colors were ok but I wanted a change for visibility. My Behotec gear experiment gave me door issues so I also eliminated them in exchange for cover plates. This has become my local grass field jet so I was not going for total perfection and trying to keep it simple. My painter used some artistic freedom so the end result differs from what I first visualized, but still I'm very happy with it. The flame outlines are lime green but pics show them yellow for some reason. No problems seeing that House of Kolor paint glowing in the sun...

Looks good! Just got home from running 20 litres of fuel through mine today off grass. The only thing I've changed from the stock set up is I'm now running IQ hammer main retract units after having repeated problems with the Airtech units when flying from grass. Totally reliable after the switch

I'm just working on my shockwave build and wonder how people set up the vent for the smoke tank. since it came in one piece and need to use a standard fuel tank plug, how do you bent the vent to get it high enough in the saddle tanks?

I put a vent fitting on each side of the tank at the high spots and connected them to the drain. Then I used a BVM Kevlar tank fitting for the supply side so there is only one fitting at that location.
i'm not sure I have any pics because it's hidden under the bypass.

Just finishing up on my SW and doing a final C.G. I'm setting up as recommended in the manual at 13.25" from leading edge at wing root. My question is, is this a good starting point? I've set up the smoke tank and was curious that since the smoke tank is fairly aft of the CG, does it create an aft CG and using smoke, would that affect how I set up the initial CG? Or is it a case where initially it's a little too aft and after burning it off you're fine. I'm new to smoke systems.

13.25 is very safe. I have flown up to 14.0
saddle tanks are up front of CG so burning the smoke and flying at same time kinda equals out. theres tons of fuel so you can fly 9 to 10 minutes. smoke will be gone way quicker.
there has been an instance where a canopy frame, cockpit and pilot ejected and still no issue with cg.
Even at 14 its not pitchy but gets a little more sensitive.
