Thumbs up JET-METAL Authentic Aluminum Paint by BVM

BVM is proud to announce this new product to our line of scale model accessories.

Jet-Metal
is an easy to apply, spray-on paint that simulates real aircraft aluminum skin and is very durable. Jet-Metal is impervious to Jet A, Diesel fuel, Kerosene, gasoline, *Glo fuel, and even dirty sunscreen greasy hands. Jet-Metal can be safely cleaned with PrepSol (DuPont) or Acryli-Clean (PPG), Isopropyl alcohol and a glass cleaner like Windex. Of course, some model painting experience is required, but if you have used an air brush and follow the procedures outlined in the BVM "Jet-Metal" instructions, we think you will be very pleased with the results. Of course, it works on "Warbirds" too!

Please visit the site for more information and photos.

Government regulations are the primary reason that most paint products are expensive.
Yep, must be the government's fault it's $400 bucks a PINT!

Glad it's on special at $350.

That looks pretty cool in the photos. I'll look forward to seeing it next week at Top Gun and may take advantage of the show special!

Regards,

Looks very much like Alcad II metal painting system, it also needs to be painted over black base color to bring out perfect metal finish and shine on the painted surface. I used to use Alcad II a lot back in the years of scale plastic modelling.

...but don't you need to clear alclad to protect it, thus eliminating the metal effect? Same with Alsa mirrachrome which needs a protecting clear coat. In the process your metal effect is lost and it becomes just silver looking paint. This paint appears to make the need for clear unnecessary. Correct?

definitely intrigued by this!

Interesting product, do you buff out each individual panel to get a multipanel effect with it like you would with Flitemetal?

No, it does not need to be applied over a black base coat. If you read the information on the BVM Jets website, an optional base coat is Klass Koat primer, which is dark gray in color. It covers it very well, and looks very realistic in natural light....I have watched BV paint a few of the sample parts as well as some of the panels on his F-80 that will be in Top Gun this year, and I know that it is not Alclad II.
You don't need to top coat it with clear or use white gloves to handle it.

Sean,

That's what Alclad II site recommends but I never clear coated any of my models or models I built for people back then. It laqure based paint, looks very realistic without clear and doesn't chip off. Now with plastic models you don't touch or use them where difference comes in between rc models n them. I would give alclad II a try and see how it works or not on rc models. Yet it's a lot cheaper then BVM metalizer paint

It isn't supposed to look like polished aluminum, but it does look very realistic..
Natural aluminum isn't polished.

I'm not going to comment on price as I don't know the manufacturing process of this paint.
However if you think it's to expensive the simple answer is for no one to buy it. BVM will than have two options which are to reduce the price or take it of the market if it's not worth the effort at the reduced price.
Things are worth as much as the customer is worth to pay.

I watched a reconstruction of a German wwII TOP Secrete jet... They used a metal paint to simulate the type of metal that would had be used on the "REAL" jet, to see if it had "cloaking" properties...
The paint was Extremely expensive.... and was painted over wood, as it wasn't a "flying" model, only a representation.. do not know if this paint has real metal in it or not?

For someone who is not a "hater" you sure have a way with words. The original poster just wanted to let guys know of a new improved product now available. Did not see where you were told you must buy it!!!!
As for cost yes it is expensive, but having just been to the paint store compared to the automotive paints its not much different. I figure paints have about doubled in the last 5+ years

The correct punctuation would go a long way here....

I am not a hater. I don't buy a brand just because someone made it. I buy it because I want it. Don't care who makes it.

See how much better that looks! Plus, it's easier to read and understand.

Rustoleum silver at HD, $11.99 a quart. Re-badged with XXX brand name=30x the price. P.T. Barnum said it best. SMF.

I have a question: how do you guys who don't know what it is, know what it is?..
Yep its very expensive. No doubt about that. So?.. it's just another finishing option yes? You want More or Less Options? I like More.
