Running 4 cell Eneloop ni-mh packs (usually 2) through 2 switches straight to the receiver.

Simple, good capacity & plenty of under-load voltage for my set ups.
Eneloops in my transmitter as well.

Zippy, Turnigy or Rhino lipo ECU batteries, the demands on these batteries are very modest
compared to the original, electric flight, use for which they are designed.

2 Fromeco A123 2300 Rx and JC Life 9.9 on Ecu on one jet. 2 Fromeco Lion 2600 Rx and JC Life 9.9 on Ecu on the other. Excellent results

May be an appropriate question for this thread, how do you like to charge your smaller batteries:
- 2S RX lipos
- 2S RX liFe or A123 packs
- 3S ECU liFe packs?

Do you charge exclusively thru the balance plugs, or a combo of balance plugs and power leads?

For all my Powerboxes I use Fromeco Li Ion 5200 batteries. I even use these batteries in my older gas starting turbines without a problem. I also use these batteries in my gassers.

In newer Kerostart turbines, I'm using the Life batteries supplied by Jetcentral and that If not mistaken, they are supplied by Duralite.

For my Jetcat turbines, didn't liked the supplied batteries and went with Revolectrix Diamond batteries

All brands can be abused. I've seen TP puff on the second flight because they were pushed too hard. TP are made in China as I understand it, and assembled here. Unless you've got a good source, they are at least 50% more expensive than other brands, and since that's true, I understand the price difference. Not worth it in most applications I use, including EDFs, 3D, and sport flying, in my opinion. I'm not buying the marketing.

I've used most other brands and have had good luck with all of them. Battery management is what matters. My current favorites are blue Turnigys BECAUSE THE PRICE, BALANCED WITH THEIR PERFORMANCE, IS EXCELLENT . I have some with 50-70 flights on them and they are still dependable and going strong. I balance charge every time, modulate throttle, and don't get greedy on flight times. ALL lipos seem to puff or get soft eventually, and all have a limited life at PEAK performance. My six year limited experience with electrics and my opinion are talking here. I like real-world use and am not as impressed with charts, graphs, and theory. Bottom line, to each his own.

The key to evaluating any batteries is understanding how they perform under load. Here is one data point of the the independent data I mentioned earlier.

Genuine A123 cells from Hangtimes (http://hangtimes.com/a123_packs.html) for Rx. The packs are built Mil spec. Built and cell quality are second to none.

For high performance EDFs I've been disappointed with TP lately. Gens aces smoke the TP out of the water with lower internal resistance and holding voltage under large loads. Revolectrix are also much better than the current TPs.

Lots of good info and true comparisons here
