I am very happy to report that the test flights went extremely well!
I was at the OC-Turbo Fest Jet Meet in Titusville Pennsylvania on Saturday and I asked Mr. Jim Hiller to test the Dolphin as Jim’s background is rooted in competition pattern flying. Jim also writes the Jet column in the AMA Magazine. I get the feeling there may be a future column on his Dolphin flying experience.
Jim was immediately comfortable with the flight characteristics of the Dolphin, after a couple of tweaks on the elevator trim he put it through the paces. I really knew he like it when he started flying low horizontal figure eight patterns at low speeds in a small space directly in front of us.
I was very lucky to have two other top notch pattern fliers in attendance at the meet as well, Mr. Lewis Patton and Mr. Joe Steklachick (Stek).
So on the third flight we passed the transmitter around, first to Lewis Patton (The General) and then to Joe (Stek). Lewis flew a couple of circuits to get used to the flight characteristics, after that he started into his old pattern routine and I could see a very big smile on his face! Anyone who knows Lewis knows what that big smile means! He said he was hooked! Next Lewis reluctantly passed the transmitter to Mr. Joe Steck.
Joe fly’s a Protti Tuono and he said that the Dolphin flies’s very similar, Joe was very happy with the performance putting it though its paces.
To sum it up, all three pilots said that Fei Bao has a winner on their hands, Jim said FB nailed the airfoil design for a sport Jet, he said inverted performance was great, he said he didn’t need to hold any down elevator, the knife edge performance was also great requiring only rudder inputs to hold a straight line.
Congratulations to FB Jets for the Dolphin, Jim said we will need lots of Jet A at KY Jets!!!!!
I guess now I need to get busy and start the construction thread and the manual...

I just saw that Billy D. from USA RC Jets posted a video of the flight yesterday, special thanks to Billy for taking the video.
This was the second flight of the day.
I will be posting links to the video that Bob Engle shot as soon as he is done editing it.
I forgot to mention, I have a Jet Central Rhino in the Dolphin, it is more than enough power, all three pilots were using around half throttle during the flight.

Looks great really like the colour scheme, can you advise the AUW (dry) you finally achieved and the turbine you used (KT obviously). Finally figured out what was wrong with my KT170F when I couldn't achieve the stated full rpm, bit embarassed as to the reason but all is good now.

Peter,
I just finished the build and did the maiden 2 weekends ago. We put 7 flights on it and have it dialed in. My plane fly's AWESOME and is being pushed by our K-180G. I had issues with the sequencing for the gear & doors but got the timing dialed in perfect on the EV-5 valve. I had to use exactly 1lb of nose weight and that put my CG right at 215mm. The plane flew great, hands off and slows nicely to land. I did not have an opportunity to put it on the scale for a weight yet, but I would guess it is just a tad over 40lbs dry. How is your T-33 doing?
Regards,
Dirk
