Rich, send me your final CG and throws when you get a chance. I hope to have it flying for Michigan.
I'm going to try to make the gear doors work too. The easy fix may be two cylinders per door but I'm going to try something else first.
The hardest part of of finishing this plane will be finding a pilot for it
I'll fly it for you. (LOL)

So... are you ready to sell me your Reaction, to make room for your new toy?

Yep, a smaller 92" Dolphin but not sure when.

Tony, don't tempt me. I need to buy a Jeti radio.

You're right Bob, later I'll make a nice cockpit and maybe even a full pilot. It's ok for a sport jet to have a nice cockpit ;-)

Mark
I'll try to get the CG and throws posted this weekend, If you need them sooner you can call me....

As far as the gear doors, not sure adding another cyliner will help, I think a totally different cylinder (longer) is needed that would change the geometry to get the attachment point further out on the door.

Mark

A good starting point for the C.G. is 2.3" behind the center line of the main spar, this is approximately 28% of MAC.
I used the G.C Calculator to find the MAC.

I also drew up a C.G balancing jig that is inserted between the wings and the fuselage, this makes it very easy to hang the plane to balance.

Thanks Rich.
I wasn't sure if I could maneuver the fuse through the house in one piece. After bolting the two sections together I successfully made it all the way to the dungeon, er... shop. That's a relief.
I also ran the engine on the bench today so it's ready to be installed.

As I mentioned in a earlier post that during the maiden flight the right main failed to deploy, I thought I had found the problem as it appeared that the rib cut out at the wing joint section was interfering with the strut, so it was an easy fix to sand that area for clearance. However on a flight at KY Jets the right main failed to deploy once again, this time I removed the retract mechanism to to investigate, it was discovered that the trunnion had a slight interference fit against the cylinder mounting plate when the gear was retracted, a small amount of filing on the top of the trunnion cured this problem, see photo.
My recommendation would be to take the gear apart to inspect than reassemble using loctite.
Also I removed the wood screws that were used to hold the gear into the blocks and replaced with 4-40 bolts and blind nuts

Mark I hope you'll have it done for Michigan that way I can fly your model and Rich's and compare them.
Rich did you ever install a cortex in your Dolphin?

I guess its time to get back to the build,

Below are the calculations I used to verify the torque required for the elevator servos at various throws, as shown by the calculations the worst case torque required is 108 In-oz using the assumptions of max deflection of 20 degs. and maximum airspeed of 175 MPH.

I used a pair of Hi-Tec HS-5955 TG servos for the elevators which are rated at 333 oz-in at 6V which is more than sufficient.

Below are the calculations I used to verify the torque required for the aileron servos at various throws, as shown by the calculations the worst case torque required is 160 In-oz using the assumptions of max deflection of 20 degs. and maximum airspeed of 175 MPH.
Edit: However it was found that 20 deg was way too sensitive, my high Rate was cut back to 12 Deg, the torque required at 12 Deg is 110 In-oz at 175 MPH

I used a pair of Hi-Tec HS-5625 MG servos for the ailerons which are rated at 131 oz-in at 6V.

NightHawks.
I like to have two jets flying and one backup. So, when I get the Flash going again or buy my next plane (which might begin with a "V"), there is a very slight possibility that the old twice retired Reaction could, MAYBE, be for sale LOL.

I worked on the gear the last two nights and they unlock at <20lbs of pressure so shouldn't have to worry about stuck gear.

Cool. I was going to buy Gary's Flash... but he changed his mind. I really figured you would have yours back flying by now.

I'm in Napa working... but I will be back next week. Let me know if you are going to do a maiden.

But seriously... if the reaction comes up for sale... let me know before going public.

Below are the calculations I used to verify the torque required for the Rudder servo at Full throws, as shown by the calculations the worst case torque required is 226 In-oz using the assumptions of max deflection of 19 degs. and maximum airspeed of 175 MPH.

I used a Hi-Tec HS-7955 TG servo for the Rudder which is rated at 333 oz-in at 6V, which is more than enough for the job.

Below are the calculations I used to verify the torque required for the Flap servos at Full throws, as shown by the calculations the worst case torque required is 309 In-oz using the assumptions of max deflection of 45 degs. and maximum airspeed of 130 MPH.

I used a pair of Hi-Tec HS-7955 TG servos for the Flaps which are rated at 333 oz-in at 6V, which is more than enough for the job.

The tables show the effect of deflection on required torque vs. airspeed

Still using the new Rhino SP? Are main gear doors removed?
