Just to verify .... did you mean 0/-10/-20??
Unless you changed your bank 2 settings with a computer and the software, the positive gain will put it in bank 2 which is heading hold by default.
Amber light is bank 1 which is by default rate mode and is negative gain numbers ... green light is bank 2 which is by default heading hold mode and is positive gain numbers.
Just double checking!

Thunderbird Dolphin maiden complete!
The maiden was complete 7/6 at Nighthawks. All went well and settings per the manual for elev. ail. rud. were right on. Still sneaking up on the flap/crow settings. Started at the recomenmded and have increased a little. I see a few have gone as much as 3.75 inches of deflection and 5/16ths crow. Right now I'm at 2.75 and 1/4 inch crow. I'll keep sneaking up on it. The first landings were fast (just wouldn't slow down) but very smooth. This is a very nice sport jet! Thanks to Eric Clapp for all your help getting a great airframe and Rich Miller for all your initial testing, hints and tips.

I pulled a good one. Used the JR heavy duty control arms on the flaps. Stripped one on my last flight. Slight roll on final but controllable. When I landed one flap was 1/2 the other was full. The nylon horn stripped on the servo spline. Never seen that before but the flaps on this thing are so big it overwhelmed servo arm. Needless to say the elevator and flaps are all metal now and the rest will soon be. Dumb stunt on my part as I just didn't want to cut the servo arm openings any bigger.....DOH.

Did a little jet flying with my buddy Rich P today (Friday) and finally got the Dolphin in the air. Went pretty much as expected. Low elevator rate and a few clicks of trim had it flying nicely. Almost no down elevator needed for inverted flight. Knife edge was very good with about half rudder and little to no coupling. I'll have to try to get some more aileron throw if possible (I think I have all I can get). I balanced it 1/2" ahead of the recommended CG.
The first landing was good with a nice head wind. The next two landings were very long as the wind had lowered and gone cross. I have almost 4" of flap and it's still not enough to slow it down. Actually it does slow down but just keeps flying. Guess I'll add some more flap and a little more crow and see what happens. It seems like the residual thrust from the K210 is too much for this plane.
I also changed the flaps to the internal linkage from the parts Rich gave me. Thanks Rich

I have 3.5" flap and 5/16 crow and it slows down nicely, less residual thrust with my Rhino SP. Landing in the 1st third of a 1000 grass runway and stopped about 150 after touchdown. Mine cruises around at 160 with 1/2 throttle and unlimited vertical when I let the big dog out. One thing you might want to look at is the gear. The plunger for the spring travel was getting stuck and not allowing one main to retract. I took it apart and found a lot of paint in the sleeve. Cleaned it all out and added a drop of oil and now the gear damping is silky smooth. This is a very nice jet. Have fun with yours.

The same happened with my gear. I'll take it apart and do the same. Also the brakes were sticking which I already knew was a problem. I didn't think to check the engine RPM at idle but it seemed kind of high. I should be able to check it in my telemetry log.

Rhino has about 1.2 residual thrust. I have to carry power down final with my configuration and go to idle about 3' above the runway. Got 2 flights today. Got slow on one...if you are in idle you had better ask yourself why...got a little wing wobble. Never tried to snap but it was talking to me. Added some more up elevator to mix with full flaps...now 20% up elev and final approach is just about hands off. That's my goal....getting it trimmed up and just adjust glide path with throttle.

Congratulations on your maiden.
I am surprised that your Big Dolphin is not slowing down, when I had my 42# thrust Rhino in mine I needed to carry around 1/4 stick of power, now with my 30 # Super eagle I have to carry much more power into the final before going into idle, but I also have almost 90 deg of flaps with the internal linkages.
I also have around 3 mm of crow, so it will slow right down with no issues.
p.s. are you coming up to Titusville this coming weekend?

Rich,
I only have three landings on it so it could be me. Also I was cutting the throttle up high and making a steep descending turn to final. It didn't seem like it picked up a lot of speed but apparently it did. I have a little down trim dialed in for full flap that I'll also take out. I ran the engine yesterday just to confirm the idle on the 210 and it was normal.
I used the CG machine yesterday to compare the hung CG. There was 1 mm difference and the plane weighs 37.48lbs.
Yes, I'll be at Titusville. I'll see if Gary or Rich want to go too.
Tom,
My struts were sticking because the screws at the knee were too tight. They are smooth now.

With down elevator trim with full flaps the tendency is for the nose to drop on final and accelerate. I like to trim my jets for final approach glide slope and then use the throttle for glide slope management. Too hi reduce power too low increase. Right stick is used very little except for wing leveling.

I plan on getting a bunch of flights next weekend to sort it out.
I want to be able to fly this plane at my home field which involves clearing some trees on final and dropping in.
