LOL, I think just the opposite… pulling the tanks gluing the inserts in…. well worth $78 ;-) But I have two small kids, time is a valuable commodity nowadays.

Love seeing your progress, its giving me great ideas!

it sure feels nice to inspire future builders of this model, I'm for one sure am having a great time building it, and looking for ways to make it maintainble and 'secure'...

I use Festo throughout the air and fuel system. I am a big fan of the 3 way T's. They are long and very positive ways to connect air lines and fuel lines in my opinion. They come in 3mm (air) and 4mm and 6mm (fuel).

Muzz, I agree... they're not cheap, but a good investment imho... My Scorpion has Festo throughout, and I noticed it holds air for up to 2 days....

Yes I sent the wing mechanism and the landing gear to them, they are incorporated into the new model, with a price adjustment.

Muzz,

there is very little room between the tubes and the nozzles, so i doubt that any afterburner ring will have much effect....now, given that, outside diameter of the tubes is 10cm, inside dia of the nozzle is 10.5 cm, widest point of the nozzle where it joins the fuse is 15.5cm

No worries, thanks Wim. I will not bother getting the afterburner rings then.

If you guys tell me the diameter of the exhaust cans, i can tell you if my "open" nozzle cans will fit so you can run afterburner rings.

I have used their system before and found that it consumed a very high amount of battery power, so I am trying the airpower system and piecing the lights onto it

I used them in my F-16 and they are very power hungry, the small 6.6 life packs are done after about two flights.

Mine arrived today. I am happy overall. Very well packaged by skymaster. First impressions:

Landing gear is a lot bigger than it looks, very chunky and well made. I couldn't put my hand around it and I have a large hand. Undercarriage requires painting white, so will have to pull it all out and do that.

Red paint work around gear doors is extremely amateur at best, but good around slats/spoilers.

Cockpit is very cheaply done, which is a shame. Made of thick material, which is good, but let down severly as the buttons look as thought they were painted by someone who didn't give a damn or by a kid.

Aircraft Paint is of good quality mostly and looks nice. Black on verticals needs to be touched up, as paint has chipped during construction at factory.

Have to change PIO to read RIO on canopy. Didn't notice that in the photos they sent me...oh well, bit of yellow will fix that.

Release mechanism for Elevators is very easy to use and very positive to lock or unlock (photo below). Small white push in stick built into the bottom of each elevator

Canopy locking mechanism is on both sides and comes with an air sequencer to take care of the opening and closing of the canopy/locks.

Tail cones lack detail and are poorly made.

Washers have been used to stand off one of the wing actuators....thought they would have sorted this.

Ordnance is good and fits well, Although one of the pheonix missiles has a crack in it.

A couple of photos of the unpacking. What you do notice straight away is just how big the main box is. Over 6' long.

I have been wondering about the gear doors and the red outlines, every pic I have seen looks like you described. I figured it might be best to not have it done and just add it yourself. Maybe if its addressed with Anton they will fix it.

FWIW, no F-14's that I know of had "Pilot" or "RIO" (or "PIO", as the case may be) on the canopy. I suppose it was just understood that the guy in front was the pilot, and the guy in back was the RIO. Rank was usually put in front of the name, but I never knew of any "CPO"'s that were flight crew. I'm sure, though, that some Chief Petty Officers wouldn't mind taking a Tomcat for flight.

That could have been on the original decal sheet it could have been copied from. The worker applying the decal probably didnt know any better and does not speak english. These are common production issues in China. A good QC checklist and installation/application instruction sheet should have caught this at the bare minimum.
