I'm not sure why people are comparing the BVM PNP planes to the bare airframe from JL. Of course it's going to be more expensive, but to say it's 2x expensive is very misleading. The JL planes are airframe only. The BVM versions are plug and play with servos, air systems, and lights. JL does NOT sell a PNP F-16 for $3500.

Not strictly correct... you can actually get a similar build from JL

Yes, but not for 1/2 the price of what BVM sells it for.

True statement Raff.. Being in business can be tough for the small players.

While I feel for Malcolm, his wont be the first business that has been targeted by a larger and more aggressive competitor. Unfortunately, this is a fact of life. But as they say, business is business.

As some have pointed out, there is a down for the consumer. The F-16 and Cougar are no longer available, (unless you purchase through BVM at BVM prices.) But, people should remember that ultimately, this is Jet Legends decision. They were not forced into the deal with BVM.
Consumers that are not happy with the deal should really direct their angst towards Jet Legend.

A good friend, who owns a business over here in the hobby industry, once told me “the only way to make a small fortune in this game, is to start out with a large one”. It’s a tough market..

Dude,
Never said that it would be half price but certainly cheaper.
Look, this is not totally about the cost of the product anyway, for me at least.. We all need the warm, fuzzy feeling that we can get support from our dealer when we need it and buying through BVM certainly gives you that. However, that is also not to say that someone like Malcolm could not offer the same level of support either.
For me, JL's association with BVM has simply speeded up the evolution of the airframe, providing tweaks and mods that would have eventually been introduced by the factory but in a much shorter time frame. I know this because I have seen different sub versions delivered to me.
So its not great for the US JL dealers and I'd hate it too but it's good for the end user and extremely good for the factory as they will understand the level of quality they need to achieve, which in due course will filter down into other products that are not associated with BVM, such as the brilliant small Viper.

Now don't bother picking holes in what I've said... I'm in Disneyworld (literally not mentally) so I'm off to carry on my strange but nonetheless enjoyable experience in Florida.

I never said you made the comment and my post wasn't directed at you. I've read the 1/2 price comparison in other threads. I completely understand Malcolm's point in this situation and it has to be frustrating. As someone who doesn't care to have a PNP plane, it's disappointing that I can't even buy the airframe from JL, so it's not all puppies and sunshine. Have fun at Disney World!

Well, obviously JetLegend was not satisfied with its current distribution model so they made the change. Fallout happens.

In my opinion, the manufacturers need to look at the mirror, they can't have it both ways. Will they sell direct? Or have a high markup, high touch distribution model?

When you try to do both, in this new internet world of complete transparency, these are the kinds of threads you are going to get.

BTW, who is Premier Aircraft? I thought BVM gets them from premier aircraft, some Floridian that gets them from China? So now there is another guy getting paid so it is not all going to BVM.

I a'm a builder. But with a advent of ARF's and now plug and play I think it is great. It takes all the guesswork and modification need to make a ARF reliable. The most important thing I see is now all the time you spent on building or assemble can be devoted to your family and friends. I look back at the amount of hours I spent building my planes and it is staggering . My time was flexible so the family did not suffer. I flew the PP 16 and was impressed . At Kentucky the cougar was impressive also. Dan Avilla

I see this as a great movement in the industry toward REAL ARF's. It's a great business model if you ask me. There are plenty of folks willing to pay BVM to make sure the thing is contructed properly etc. I can't wait to see them come out with more.

It's about convenience. Some folks, I'm sure, are completely able and willing to build. But not everyone has the time to do it. BVM ensures that you will have an expertly assembled jet with not much left to do to get her airborne.

And heck yes, a PNP Bandit would be awesome.
