New BVM Cougar?
#51
It's about convenience. Some folks, I'm sure, are completely able and willing to build. But not everyone has the time to do it. BVM ensures that you will have an expertly assembled jet with not much left to do to get her airborne.
And heck yes, a PNP Bandit would be awesome.

I come from the days of the BVM Sport Shark, Aggressor II, early Sabre, then came the Maverick, with wings injected/sheeted like the F-16 was done. I thought I was spoiled then!!!
I have considered selling my Sabre (p-70) set up since I don't fly but a couple of times a year.
Heck, I have a 3/4 built BVM Balsa Bandit and an Bobcat XL kit in the garage now. No time + No Money = No fly!

Its already released in China ( see previous posted pix)where they have been flying the pants off it for three months and it will be at Jetpower Germany next month, JL have been flying it since the beginning of June, and they have ironed out everything to make it ace, ready for BVM to take the credit....MK

Can anybody who actually owns one of these please give a flight review of this plane? I was one of the first on the list to order one (a VT-26 scheme) but switched to a BVM Bobcat because we needed a small jet fast and, at the introduction, the Cougar was on a slow boat from China. Appears many people have them now so I'm wanting to hear from the owners. We had one at our jet rally this weekend but it hadn't maidened yet. We already own a BVM F-16 PnP so familiar with the style of kit. Thanks for your write up

Patrnflyr I dont own one but got some stick time on them and love them. I have never flown an easier turbine powered aircraft. Slow rolls, 4 point rolls its all cake with this plane. It flew so nice it could be an easy first jet for people. Also loved how easy the nose comes off for servicing.

I have quite a few flights on the bvm cougar and it is a very stable flyer. It does very well on a 100 size turbine and the slow flight and landing characteristics are very docile. Kris sums up the maneuvers part well, super easy, and I thought relaxing. It's a perfect size jet and presents well in the air. Hope this helps.

Any recent updates on this aircraft? I finally purchased an almost new one and have a few weeks before it arrives. Here's a pic of the scheme that I've purchased. Anything to watch for since many people have a lot of flights on them? The only thing I've heard is it could tolerate a slight bit more power on takeoff but once on step, it really hauls. I'm ordering those wingtip skids just to be safe but that's about all. Thanks for all of your input.

Well, I finally had everything align and I was able to fly the Cougar! What a giant cream puff! I've been sweating out this for months and it actually flies easier than my KingCat. It has a KingTech 100 in it which seems great power, but was thinking the 120 since it's the same weight and dimensions. I noticed no lack of power when flying but could've used a little more oomph on take off and when it's fully dirtied up. This pic was taken from a good friend of mine, Terry D, who writes some articles for the AMA. Never had a smoke system before so I'm going to need to find something to store and pump smoke oil.
Really a happy camper...

Just received some wing bags from Scott Marr and "Revox". Very impressive bags with a very tough armor fabric coating on the outside and soft felt on the inside. Perfectly fit for the Cougar. Reasonably priced and received quickly directly from Poland. I'll have them at West Texas Jets if anyone wants to look at them (along with a pair for a BVM F-16)
Thanks again Scott!!!

Dan,
Seeing your kit-built models in the 90's and 00's was one of the things that got me hooked into jet modeling and attending events. These days, we're lucky to see two or three kit-built models at an event.
I'm not the builder some of the guys from 'back in the day' are, but I'll always be a builder, too. The time isn't meaningless, but when that time is spent building with your loved ones, then all the better.
Before I had kids, I sat down and built airplanes and rockets from kits with my nephews. Now my son helps me and I'm very grateful to get to share this hobby with him. No Plug-N-Play going on over here

I bought the plane second hand and it was very gently used, actually improved upon. I fly Spektrum and it had a power safe twelve channel receive with the Xpander for 18 channels. The previous owner left everything in the plane so it was essentially BNF. My son actually set up everything so I'll let him come on here and add any additional info.
As I said earlier, I have a KingTech 100 and at our 3500 ft altitude, I'd like a little more oomph so I'm looking at the KT120 as an upgrade. I'd get that motor from the get go if I was buying new. Recommend a small block 120 as this plane thrives on being very light

Sorry, he doesn't frequent RCU much any more but he said the bvm webpage shows what is needed. I'm not much of a builder, if at all, so the PNP pushes my button.

Actually, any one of these planes would be fantastic and each has its + & -
What would be a a great idea, a PNP BobCat!
