It's nice to see a good looking model that can be ready to fly for a reasonable price.

Why do I have to be searching all over the place for the price Very common practice with some of these web sites.

Thats because Pilot doesn't sell direct. You'll have to go through Chief Aircraft, which is their US distributor.

I'm glad they improved the schemes over what they showed on Flying Giants a few months ago.

Hey Bob,
Are you currently flying the Preceptor? If so, and it is edf, what power system are you using?

I own aerobatic Pilot planes, and they are built fantastic, My 37% edge is the best built and flying plane I have ever owned. However when it comes to this jet, AND I do think it looks great, I do not see any details as to how this airframe is put together,, being a turbine platform, rated almost up to 30lbs of thrust, I would assume there would be some substantial reinforcements in place to handle the G force the plane may be exposed to,, YES I KNOW THROTTLE MANAGEMENT,, that is not the basis of my question ,, I did some searching and I can not find any real specifics on the airframe, How it is put together, or really any detailed info,,and it leaves me curious considering the scrutiny of this particular market of the HOBBY.

Well, since this was a product release announcement, I doubt you'll find too many details at this poinr. Why not order one and write a review

I'm looking to build my first turbine this winter, this airframe is at the top of my list, is there anything wrong with a built up fuse for a jet VS a composite?

Nothing wrong with either. I however think built up balsa is a lot easier to repair.

No! Guy have been flying the Turbinator, Shockjet, DV8R, and a few other airframes that are all balsa ply construction. All airframes mentioned fly well, but like some composite airframes, these things will come apart if over stressed.

Well Chief Aircraft has there first couple Dolphin Jets in stock. Attached is a link to the website. Hopefully that will give some information a few of you may be searching for. The crew at Chief in Oregon are currently assembling one with a Kingtech K-140. Stay tuned for more info and hopefully some build pics.

Is there a manual online yet for the Dolphin? I'm tempted to buy a turbine ready kit, but hesitant because I'd like to assemble it and use higher quality servos.

If you are concerned about what their choice of servos is, simply send Pilot an email and ask for some clarification. I assume it uses Pilots servos, which I believe are Savox servos rebranded with the Pilot name. If you are simply concerned that the servos provided are not of good quality, I wouldn't worry about that, I'm sure they are fully up to the task. If you want something specific, such as JR or Futaba servos, then you don't have much choice other than to order the ARF and either assemble it your self or hire a builder. I've assembled a number of Pilots Giant scale aerobatics planes and they have all been very high quality. Their instructions can be a bit sparse at times but if you've assembled a couple of ARFS in the past, nothing that should present any real problems.

I'd rather use 8911's then Savox 1256's It's just a personal preference, nothing against Savox or Pilot RC.

And Just so you know, ordering a Pilot RC jet without the servos, is a special order from Chief Aircraft and not due in till December.

Everything but the rear of the jet looks great. It looks like they just quit on it.

Here's the manual.

But $1599 for a wood jet, seems like a lot. (just my opinion)

Not really..it is already built AND includes the landing gear and air support system.
I still think it has potential....

I agree. Considering it can easily cost $800 dollars plus for retracts, brakes, etc, that leaves about $800 for the basic airframe and tailpipe which seems to be right in line with other wooden ARF jets such as the DV8R, etc..

Looking closely at the available photos, it looks like the stab goes right through the top of the rear fuse. Hard to tell whether in one piece of two. That would explain the extra thickness in that area and why it it looks the way it does. To my feeble brain at least, it only looks weird if you are staring at it close up on the ground. In flight, to me, it appears unoticeable.
