Best Afterburner Ring??
#4
I must agree with Jeff, Gaspars are very bright. I've fitted several and they show up very well even on bright days "when we get them"
The controller is programmable and like the rings are very keenly priced, They come in sizes 60, 80, 95, 110mm ID. at 25-35 euros
The controller (25 euros) is up to 4ch, I have ran two rings together from the one controller on a twin but if there is room you could have two up the same tail pipe!

Hi Mark
Gaspars product has the transition from off to "flicker" to full on and the point at which it switches is also programmable but don't they all?.
If your visiting the Nats this weekend Steve Haughty should be flying my old Jetlegend 1/6th "Thunderbird" fitted with Gaspar's 110mm after burner ring so you could see for your self.
Total cost of that install was around £55, would be nice to think the Airpower one is 5X as good but its your monies .
You could fit a second ring if theres room, If its tight segmenting the second ring and bridging the joints with a solder job at a total extra cost of £30.
Hope you find what your looking for, they certainly add another dimension to our Jets .

hyperdyne labs made a strip that actually changed color, but wasn't very practical because the lights faced inward and not rearward, and also wasn't as bright as the d4s emitters. Idea was cool with the varying color.

Hi "Scooby"
Jeff at Zedjets stocks Gaspar's E Valves, sensors and accessory's and of course is a dealer for his excellent Turbines, his prices are keen and service second to none.
He has regular delivery's and it usually doesn't take very long even if any items are not actually in stock.
Remember its a bank holl and he is prop at the Nats so best try early next week.

If Jeff has not got any, Gaspar's on line shop "XICOY ELECTRONICA SL" sells the A/B Rings and controller's direct. Prices do not include tax but at least there's no import duty from Spain
Although based in Spain the postage times are fairly quick but I believe accessories are only dispatches once a week, he dose take P/P and cards online.
Delivery costs are also surprisingly low, Spain like most of mainland Europe don't seem to have the extraordinary high postage cost we have here in the U.K.

Hi Gunradd
Your JL built BVM F16 dose not look any were near as bright as the Xicoy one I have here in my original JL F16, it still looks good though
What voltage do you run it at? mine is connected to the ECU pack at 7.4 to 8v
I also lined the inner part of the tail cone with foil tape (being careful not to short out the pins at the back of the ring!)
The foil tape defiantly helps to throu the light out and scatter it across the back to a wider angel, it shows up a treat
Its actually some times quite alarming when it comes on during the flight

I have it hooked to a 3 cell LIFE battery that also runs the ECU and pump. Its brighter when you look from right behind it but its not as bright as the airpower rings still.

Hi Gunradd
OK its good to know the Xicoy unit will run safely run on 3 cell Life at 10v ish.
I will except the Airpower is brighter and if money were no object I to would have all the best gear available but at 4x or more the cost
Did you line the inner tail cone were the ring sits with aluminium foil? I found it makes a world of difference and shows up much better especially from the sides.

Hello Mark.
I paid $230.00 for 2 AB rings and a 2 landing lights a lighting controller and nav lights on the airpower system.
Paid about $150.00 For just the AB lights and module for the Xicoy since the plane already had lights.
For the money they are very similar priced. I needed landing and nav lights so it was cheaper to go with the airpower system rather then order it all separate. So to say the airpower system is high priced is not at all true.
I had to use some heat shield foil around the pipe to protect the lights from the heat. The dual ring just fit around the pipe. I bought the stuff from the RC car isle at my local hobby store and it was good to over 1000 degrees. Its foil on one side and fiber glass on the other.
