Fly eagle jets at best in the west 2014
This goes out to all Pilots who will be attending Best In The West 2014 and any year there after, and fly a Fly Eagle Jet Model Aircraft:
Due to some of the model aircraft offered by FEJ with known airframes to have numerous failures, I have decided to BAN some of the models to attend Best In The West: These models are,
F-14 1:7.5 and 1:8.5,
BAE Hawk 100 1:4.5
BAE Hawk 1:4.5 and 1:5.5
A-7 1:6
A-10's all three Sizes
J-10's all sizes
I am sorry for the inconvenienced this may have on you attending BITW, but Safety comes first and will not be tolerated, all other FEJ that are not mentioned above will be allowed to fly, however if it comes to my attention that other FEJ aircraft has had airframe failure, I will have no choice but to ban that aircraft as well. If anyone would like to discuss this, please feel free to call me or email me.
Thank you, Joe C!

Hey Boys, now that we're on a safety ban happy kick why don't we ban all the aircraft that have twice the horsepower in them in which the aircraft is rated. No, wait we can't do that...half the jet community would be banned!! I've have no problem with the FEJ ban but if we're gonna blame it on safety then show some consistency and look at all of the aspects of safety.

Joe,
Last year at Monster Jet Jam, Lowel's FEJ, 1/5 F-86 had the servo boxes on the elevators and the rudder literally detach while he was flying. 1 elevator went while on the down leg, the rudder followed right after and Lowel basically yelled hang on, something's wrong but I think I can get it back, he was coming around on the final turn and a few feet off the runway the other elevator detached, he cut the power and it came power sliding down the runway. Upon inspection, I personally saw, that FEJ actually used CA, to glue the servo box inside the fuse for the elevators and rudder, CA, really?? I'm not saying add that plane to the ban list, but you might want to take notes and inspect that area if any show up. Hats off to Lowel for saving a catastrophic crash, as we had a lot of spectators that day and also for jumping the FEJ ship.
I am speaking for myself on this matter, and fully support you and Franks decision to ban FEJ and I even own one.

Properly applied fresh ca is as strong as epoxy and will break wood before the joint brakes. I have seen cardens built entirely with CA with the only thing using epoxy being the hinges and firewall.
So Ca is not the issue here, it was probably applied wrong and didn't bond to the honeycomb/fiberglass skin correctly.

The only good glue for hardwood really is slow curing, sloppy, Titebond (or gorilla). You can have a good balsa to composite CA bond if done correctly. Typically the wood yields before the joint.
Note: the wood used on FEJ and other brand servos boxes is not really "hardwood"....not sure what it is, like a soft pine wood. It tends to accept CA well.
