that's a darn shame.. i wish you could pick up the line Shawn. I've always like the Y/A line. i likened it to byron only better . your right though, the day of the builder is coming to an end. As long as Nick keeps his doors open , i'll be a happy camper.

Sucks to hear you guys will no longer be selling kits once the stock is out though... I was hoping to get a warbird some time when the time was right! (aka, when I had some spare change...)
Hey, Chico!

How are you? I often wonder how you and your F-16 are doing. Do you like P-40's?

Default AT 6 Texan

Any Texan wing kits available and do they fit the Ziroli fuselage?

Sean,

How about support items like wheels and tires for the F-18 Twin?

I ordered my Stingray from Shaun on Sunday, at my door today, now that's service! I didn't unpack everything yet, just checked out the fuse. Very nice, lots of carbon in the right places. Looking forward to the build.

Shaun, I've been doing pretty good! Getting good experience with my new job doing aircraft parts, have contracts to manufacture parts for anything from B-52's and KC-135's to F-18's!

The F-16 is doing great, I haven't had as many opportunities to fly it as I wished right now, between the new job, girlfriend, and other hobbies. I did do some rearranging on the electronics to make it easier to get the batteries in and out, as well as get a little bit better balance. Haven't been able to fly it since then, but soon...

I do like the P-40, very good looking plane. I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Yep, it sucks. It's another reason I resent the 'el cheapo' ARF's that flooded the market starting 10 years ago. I think that wave helped nail the coffin shut on 'building.' When I first started in the retail hobby business, the shelves were stocked with dozens of balsa kits by so many different manufacturers. Now, if you walk into a LHS, you'd be lucky to find any balsa plane kits at all. Now it's just toys and cheap Chinese ARF's. The new generation of customers that come in don't know a decent airplane from the junk and garbage they mostly offer.

A few years back, I was at the Miramar club field and there were three giant scale Spits in the pit. From a distance, I thought they were kit-built, but as I approached, I saw that they were ARFs. I don't remember the make, but they were pretty typical junky, plasticized cheapies. After talking to the owners, it turns out they were kind of a group-build project. I was excited to see them fly (because even a cheap ARF Spit is cool) and I also went there with a friend to fly my Y/A Spit. When I pulled mine out and got the wings bolted on, I wheeled it over to where the others were. The guys were really impressed, but they thought I just put an airbrush to an ARF similar to theirs. When I told them mine was kit-built, it was like they didn't understand what that meant. It was like they were unaware that such things existed. It turned out that one of the guys built two of the three ARFs and helped the third guy. He was their guru, and was helping them get situated. He could put an ARF together (which they could not) so he was the real-deal in their eyes. On close inspection, the planes were very sloppily put together with uneven hinge gaps, servo boxes in the wings that might as well have been mail boxes, control-horn mounting screws poking out through the top of the ailerons and elevators, etc.... To the new guys, that was impressive modeling and those guys would never buy a giant-scale Spit 'kit' so why would a manufacturer make one and try and compete it against a so-called ARF for the same price?
It's amazing, isn't it? I scratch build most of my planes and to me a bang around plane is a Stik. My latest which I don't really consider expendable is a stik with a glassed fuselage with wood filleted stab and fin and a silked wing. That one will have have a clear finish on the fuse because the wood is nearly flaweless so I want it to be visible. Still, the fuselage took me less than a week.

But it's a stik. I would always glass the fuselage because fuel always gets under plastic. The wing would normally be iron on because fuel isn't normally a problem there.

And the guys at the field look at me like I'm some kind of master and say, "Wow... so much sanding..."

And I'm like... it's a stik guys... it's barely even a real model airplane. Haven't you ever seen someone build something real like a scale Spitfire with retracts or maybe even rivets and panel lines?

"Derp?"

You know.... a scale model built from a kit or plans out of wood or maybe a fiberglass fuselage with a wood wing or a foam core sheeted with wood and then glassed and painted? Ever seen anything like that?

"Err.... huh? I saw a foam spitfire at the hobby shop for $89.99 once."

forget it... get out of my hobby please.

Hi,

Sorry, just checked and I don't see any emails from you. What's your email address? Since we're talking here, are you needing an entire wood pack, or specific formers?

Guys,

I'm now down to my last F-15 kit, and my last Stingray kit! You can order either of them direct, or you can save some money and call me for the order
