If you are flying at sea level you should have no problem.

I just uploaded this video of my 2 F5s flying together. One has 160 and the other has a 140sx. All flying fine. 120 can be a bit under power at our local field with 1,500 elevation.

Nice. What electric retract do you use? I just used the factory air retracts. They run fine and reliable. Mike

My F5 just arrived, all looks fine so far but why they delivered two extra bearing and two extra plastic spacers for elevators (total 6 bearings and 4 plastic spacers), any ideas why ?

I found the same spares in my F-5 packaging as well .....??
But no assembly manual ......?? I'm great at neat installs but there are just some things that we need to know during an assembly
Does some one have a copy of the F-5 manual they could post or PM , or where it is on the skymaster / extreme website

Thx.

The manual is available on the Skymaster website. Go to website, select Introduction Manuals. You will find the manual for the F-5, F-20, and T-38 toward the bottom of the page just below the manual for the 1/5 scale F-86.

I have almost completed the build process, yes the manual is very old and many parts in F5 new version has been changed but it is easy to build even without the help of maunal if you have some experience in building skills or with assistance from experienced buddies,
by the way i have used the two extra bearings as spacers for the elevetor control arm

I have successfully done my first fly, very reliable and shmooth flight, takeoff was fine with full flaps, i notice that when i put my flaps on the aircraft goes up so i mixed down the elevators with flaps and tested it successfully

Great thread not been on RCU for a while, heres a shot of my FB F5 flying a few months back, power is a Jetcat 120, would love a little more power, but it does fly well just the take off is the issue, though reading this has given me a few ideas, thanks.

great shot! And yes it needs more power but still 120 is sufficient for scale flying, i didnt feel any issues in takeoff but i used to follow some advices here by adding spacers on nose wheel retract base and apply full flaps during takeoff.

Some photos of my aircraft and note in the last photo how i used to give wing support more strength by adding a middle piece of plywood between the wing spars

Congratulations. Glad to see another F-5 in the sky. Take some photos for us. It's good that you add the cross beam for support. We have a report of a F-5 broke up in the air because of the lack of the cross beam. I have 2 of them on mine, they have the inverted U shape so they go around the ducting and engine. Do you raise the nose? I raised it by 3/4" so it wont leap off the ground in a short runway. For long run way, it will rotate smoothly but a but abrupt when I try to take off in a 200M runway with a lot more up elevator.

Thanks for reply, i have tried to follow most of informations here in rcu by adding support in the wingspars and raising nose, i have added 5 mm plywood under the landing gear to raise it a little, and by using full flaps, first takeoff was perfect.
i have added only one beam because I believe the rear spars were already getting their support from the turbine mounts

I have successfully flew it 3 times last weekend, cant wait for the coming weekend

If you had a 500ft runway at 2240 feet above sea level where the altitude density can range from 2000 to 4000 feet would you fly this F-5 there?

If you had two engines to choose from, Jet Cat 120 and Jet Cat 160 Titan, which would you choose for the set up at this field?

I'm curious because I really like the F-5 Aggressors and it would be awesome to fly it here.

Chris,

The 160 will be the go. I use to fly in Johannesburg, South Africa at 5500 feet altitude going on a hot day to over 6000 feet density altitude. I have a AMT Pegasus HP (17kg) fitted in my SM F5 and the total empty weight is 31.5 lbs. The only difference between where I now fly and then was the rate of descent at the higher altitude was faster due to the thinner air, but I can honestly say I have not noticed a lot of difference during take-off.

Cheers,

Jan

Default Jet F-5

Hello flight partners!

How does the update of the F-5 of Feibao or Skymaster, someone who has one from 2017 onwards and can you tell me your experience?

Is that I see that this thread has not been rewritten since 2016, a pity, because the truth that I find the F-5 a very nice plane but I do not know why exactly is not a model very seen by the flight fields .

Today, with the advances we have in the hobby, I would like to set up an electric train, without loss of air, more light and simple to assemble but I can not find the option by any manufacturer. Equal the problem is in the front wheel, which should vary its length seems for a better angle to take off! I have also read that it is necessary to reinforce the fuselage with a bench. I suppose that if one orders in the year that we are, which is in 2018 already, these reinforcements or improvements will be solved I suppose?

Thank you very much and happy flights!

Contact John at Skymaster directly and tell him what you want - Skymaster is very good when it comes to specific customer requests. My F-5 from 2006 is still flying well and I have not had any problems with it. The only modification I made was to add a 20mm spacer under the nosewheel mount. This improved the AOA on take-off and thecjet is now perfect.

Cheers,

JanR
