Thanks!! I'm sorry I didn't reply before, but congrats on the maiden!! One more question-how long can one flight last?? The fuel tanks look pretty big, but how many minutes can you be in the air?? I've read that it matters on the size of the turbine, and the larger the turbine the higher the fuel consumption. I hear you use a JetCat P200-SX and how long does that last in the air?? I want to know since that is the turbine I'm going to put in mine when my order comes in.

I have an older P200 that was converted to Kero start which is a fuel hog, but to give you an idea I flew for about 4-5 minutes before setting up to land. I always keep the first flights short, and after I landed there was 1/4 tank of the large tank left and the main tank was still full. I would guess you can easily get 7 minutes with a P200, I had the throttle at 1/2 to full most of the flight since the jet is so draggy.

Keith, congrats on the maiden of your Avanti. How do you like it? Does it feel heavy with the P200?

Thanks, overall it doesn't feel heavy and it floats more than expected in slower speeds. The overall top speed side seems way less than expected it felt like it was about to fall out of the sky around 1/2 throttle which is just an illusion because it will land at a slow jog. It felt normal around full throttle but after I get more flights on it that feeling may change.

Good to hear that it still feels light with the big block engine. I've flown the Avanti S and its top speed also felt limited, but that provided for some really nice point and slow rolls. Enjoy the big Avanti!

Do you enjoy your Futaba 18MZ?? I'm stuck with a DX-18 and I want the 18MZ. Also, is it easy to use and program servos?

Hi Guys,

I have been working with Zbig from REVOC to make a good wingbag and tail bags set from them.
I measured and ordered bags set for the XXL, with the original Sebart color scheme.
Here is the final result - the bags are amazing quality, tailor made...
I realy like them.

Should be available from REVOC now for all.

Best regards,
Ziv

Wo those are nice, the SM not made just for the avanti and if you dont put some towels in the main wing bags to protect each end of the wind the will rub and scratch the the paint.

FenderBean,
Is it easy to program the servos with the Futaba 18MZ???
Also, is the touchscreen helpful and does it make it easier to program and operate?? The DX-18 I own now is irritating since it isn't touchscreen.

***Edit***

Don't get me wrong, I like my DX-18. I've maidened many an EDF jet on that system. It's just getting a little irritating since the more servos on a plane the more programming and the only problem with the DX-18 is the programming.
My dream is a Futaba 18MZ but it was really expensive when I got my DX-18.

Duff, my flutter wasnt from the rudder flexing, it was a linkage issue, I havent been able to fly since installing my mods to the tail section.
Noa, The servo programming is simple, you just plug a Y harness into the back of the radio with a battery connected to one side and the servo to the other. Go to the SBus menu and hit recall it opens the servo and you can adjust and save the new settings. Touch screen is the best I have seen so far, much better than the 14Mz

Hi guys, on its gears, could someone measure the distance from the ground to the center of the tailpipe?

Thanks in advance,
Barry

What are you guys doing with wingfences ?? Is there a way to attach and make removeable ?? I like the idea..but know they will get beat up first time they slip into any wingbag.... FYI ..I bought some decent wing bags at Joe Nall from a place called Red Baron....Worked really well....... Flying mine on a 38lb Rhino....Looks really slow in air at half throttle.....In the fray at
First in Flight ...I almost thought once I had a flame out ....lol.....Full throttle proved different..... There's a video on one last quick flight before we left Wilson NC on the FIF thread.

It fits perfectly with the fences, it is designed for that.
All the measurements were taken with the fences installed.

Barry I have my tail off but can help with the measurement, would you like the center of the pipe at the front(turbine center) or the end next to the stabs? The measurements will be different since the jet sits a little nose low on the wheels.

also if anyone has one of the new CG machines and would like to throw in their measurments to help with data collection feel free.
I will work on getting mine drawn out when I can, also on a flight note the stock control throws on the elevators are to much and the aileron throw was not enough, rolls were super slow and the elevator was super sensitive. I will be going to max throw on ailerons and reducing the elevators about 10%, rudder can be maxed out as well. Flaps are up to you, I never used full flaps since take-off flaps were plenty and I even landed without the flaps with about the same touchdown speed.
Im guessing that with full flaps you would need a bunch down elevator and probably 1/2 throttle. Someone mentioned above the jet looks like its about to fall out of the sky unless your at full throttle. I had this same feeling, with my linear throttle curve I didnt have much mid range so im going to adjust this try and give a bit more power in the mid range. I hope this will get rid of the lack of speed in the mid range

Has anyone else cut away the wheel wells to allow more airflow or is that not necessary

Thanks

Sorry for the delay on measurements but I have been busy working and not getting home till almost seven. I will get it back together and measured Friday, at latest Saturday.

as for cutting out for more air I had to, I did a small mod to get more glue to hold the canopy secure and during my taxi test day this was one thing I checked. I went full throttle and I could see the canopy flex in due to suction. I opened mine just a little and it fix the canopy issue. I cut about a 2in diameter hole. I'm guess this is a must on anything avanti xxl with a p200 or bigger turbine.

I cutted them open, as well as some more opening underneath the turbine. I am using a BF300 and will need all the intake air I can get.....

nice work, i figure once the jet is flying the ram air you get will stop most of it but during those low speed 3d things it will still help
