Wonder if having a LiPo battery in it is a problem? Probably not. Eh?
There was the event of that guy having a suitcase with LiPos checked in and one started a fire. They apparently asked if there were LiPos in it and he reportedly told them no.
Good question! Probably ought to ask the airline rep..

You shouldn't have any problem carrying your Tx as "Carry-on". I have done it in the U.S and international, just be ready to open it up and have them "swab" it for explosives and answer a question or two. And as Pete said, carry all your lipos in your carry-on.

Are you taking your model too? When I flew out of the US a little while back they weren't inerested in the TX but did ask some questions about fuel in the model (assuming it's not EDF 
)

No problem at all, Li-poly are part of my Jeti Transmitter. No TSA agent ever asked me any questions.
I even took my 4m CF Pulsar Sailplane as carry on baggage.

I just recently took my tx on Jett blue flight in a carry on. They just pulled the bag aside and wand it for explosives. A little inconvience because I had to wait for a tsa tech.

Never had an issue with it. Best bet though is to check the bag with all of your electronics and take minimum in your carry on. I have taken turbines, radios, ECUs and TX and RX units. All in checked luggage though with my business card taped to the side.of the bag with all of the electronics.

I have done this with a DX8, and a DX7S both which had LiPos fitted. Also the Taranis once with Qantas from Sydney to the USA. No issues at all.
There was an occasion several years ago in Beijing, I am a Corporate pilot and we were going from Sydney to China then China to Perth a few days later. I put a 4S 4000 Mah Lipo in my suitcase as I wanted to give it to a friend in Perth.
After spending a few days in China, returning to the aircraft we had to go through airport security. They found the Battery and wanted to inspect it. We had an agent who started arguing with airport staff on my behalf. I couldn't understand what they were saying but it was getting heated so I picked up the battery and smiling, threw it in a garbage bin. That gesture made them all happy and we were allowed to proceed.
Shame about that LiPo but that is the only place it has occurred.
But a TX with the airlines... no problem at all.

Bob B stated he has NiMh batteries in the Tx unit... so there is no LIPO issue. Check your electronics with your luggage and gain total peace of mind. Unless all you have is carry on...

Just as an aside if you have a Lipo in your carry on and it goes off high order most people including the crew will not know what to do with it. If that happens and I can get to the battery my plan is to put it in the Ice cooler we have in the airplane I fly. It is the best alternative with what is onboard. A fire extingisher will do nothing to put the fire out.
On a passenger plane any container preferably metal that you can dump Ice, water and the battery in is the best. You need to cool it and remove the air from around it.
My issue is they can put hundreds of pounds of LiPo's on my freighter.... if they go off I am in deep do do.
You want to read something scary UPS lost a 6 year old 747 and two pilots in UAE a few years back because of a LiPo fire from one of those electronic cigarettes.
Chilling reading as the uncontainable fire progressed through the aircraft.

Sparky, what I've been wondering should you mention it to the flight crew once on
board the plane that you are carrying a Lipo (lipo's?) & what procedure you should
follow in the unlikely event something goes wrong?
Or would this just create more suspicion regarding what we carry in the way of hobby items?
Lipos create lots of fumes when they catch fire, is there somewhere in a pressurised cabin
where the fumes can be vented outside?

Dealing with Flight Attendants is something in my professional career hasn't been required. My encounters with them tell me that the vast majority will not receive the information in a manner in which you intend.
Best not mention it but if something happens take command of the situation buy telling them what you need to handle the fire. I belive the toilet has a negative airflow so the stink doesn't linger so that would be a location that you might consider also the sink is stainless steel and would likely withstand the temp pretty well water is their and just bring the beverage cart down with the ice to cool things might be a reasonable course of action. Donning a mask would be advisable as well.
I am a FedEx MD-11 Captain. I usually only speak to FA to get another scotch while deadheading someplace to meet a flight.
