Hey Maury sorry for the delay had to have emergency surgery today, but as far as I know there shouldn’t be an old/new version that changes this. There has to be wood there for the carbon tubes hold the rudders. Can you take a picture of yours or is the top picture yours?

Oops okay so it’s yours on top, the wood on mine in that area i think is balsa with glass over it. This spreads the load to between each side of the rudders. Kinda like external pylons, it’s much stronger to have block that goes from bottom to top instead of what I see sometwith a play plate just on the bottom skin. If that’s makes sense, when I get mobile again I will get you some more pictures of the area to help verify I’m not saying something wrong.

Yours also seems to have a carbon skin reinforcement on both sides in that area, sort of a third spar in the middle made with the wood and the carbon skin

Default My next project - SM F-14

After watching it closely in JOK about 2 months ago, and asking FenderBean and David lots of questions, the kit has been ordered in Jet Power. It should be delivered within 3-4 months, i'll open a new thread.

Planned setup includes 2 x JetMunts Merlin 166, Powerbox Royal, 2 x Futaba R7008SB, Futaba 18SZ. the order included full wing, painted as VF-103 Jolly Rogers.

Thanks again FenderBean and David :-)

Congrats, I didn’t get to fly mine very much. First flight was a retrim after moving stuff inside and the tire wouldn’t hold pressure after that. I recommend ordering some extra tires, they’re very soft tires and don’t last long.

Default Opening Canopy

Asking for advise: i asked SM to make the canopy with the hinges, but without the air system (cylinders for opening and locking). My original thought was that less one air system is better, and i can install a servo instead.

Any suggestions? should i stick with the original design?

Yes, it would be an easy modification. You could even using the linear actuators from actuonix. I used them on my F-18 and work nice.

Best CG is front side of the forward wing cross beam, I loosened one of the screws holding the wing clamp to the carbon fiber cross beam and hung the jet from a thin wire. seems to be a perfect CG

I thought. I need his dimensions. To see if I can make an equal.
If you can put his dimensions, I appreciate it.

Hi Guys,

With all the Coronavirus impacts and other delays due to bundle order, i finally got my F-14. 9 months.... :-) thanks to John and Anton for the great kit.

However, when i started to open the packages, i couldn't find the canopy locking mechanism. I ordered the kit without the installation of the air cylinder, in order to reduce complexity.

Can someone take close pictures of the locking mechanism?

Thanks!
my wife is happy with me :-)

If you look through the build you will see a few good pictures, the lock is a flat piece of G10 material with slit cut in it that when the canopy closes it pushes past the hook locking it. Its connected to a regular air cylinder.
post #97 and 113 have some good picks of it, im sure there are more just a few I found.
Cheers
