The earlier K-80Es have the J tube design, but since around #600 or so the factory went to the straight tube for the better fuel efficiency. Some engines get an upgrade when serviced.

All thanks for all the help in making a decision. I think for the fields I may fly at I think i am leaning to the Skymaster Extreme Viper now. its fairly big and light. they call 22lbs as max and the plane can be upwards of 23lbs dry. question will the K-140 be to much under full power? Will the airframe handle it? If not I still plan to the 140 but i heard i can turn it down some in power, is this true?

It probably can handle it with throttle management. However, I would be concerned with residual thrust at idle. The 140 would be higher than the 100. The viper is a clean airframe and you have 400ft to put it down. Residual thrust is something to consider. I always consider it since I fly off of 400ft 80% of the time.

You can reduce the full throttle rpm which reduces max thrust. You may need a test stand to find out exactly how much thrust you are taking out..... or you can just guess.

Too much residual thrust in a light plane with clean lines (read: FLOATER) on a day with no headwind to help slow you down could be iffy with 400'. You won't be underpowered with the K100.

You can setup 40- 50 degrees flap and reflex the ailerons for more drag if you need too. The "crow" setup will also male the ailerons more responsive at low speed and eliminate any tip stall tendencies. Additionally it will increase drag. All are benefits for short runway operations with the Viper.

Ok Now i saw another plane they had, the dragon, kinda looks like a bandit but has a nice sized wing and the 140 would fly it well
