Thanks Just got my waiver and looking for a new modern turbine and airframe. Looking at some of the Skymaster extreme planes and the 20-30 lbs thrust range. I will look at the VT80. Fuel effieciency is good becuse i maybe be able to get a bigger airframe and fly on a smaller turbine or install a larger one in a smaller airframe with limited fuel supply. Just looking and trying to make an informed buy since its going to be around 5000 any way you look at it.
Would like something that does 200, can land on something as small as a 400 foot strip and look like a real plane.

A P-90 rxi actually has about 2 #s more thrust than a K-100 or the P-100 for that matter. It is going to be hard to get 200 mph out of a small fuel efficient engine in a larger air frame. An 80 is at the very bottom of the 20-30 # thrust range if even in it. I think the K-100 is around 22 #s

Yes there is!
There is actually many other turbines in that class that I would compare. The 80SE is really an outdated design. I would add Jetmunts, wren and I have heard a good report from Evojets.
If Jetcat should be compared to the K100, you should consider the P-100RX.

It's possible. My home field is 400ft. Skymasters small viper with a K100 would probably fit the bill. A 1/8scale F-16 would but you need learn the airplane before you try to get it up and down in 400ft.
If you took away the real airplane part, a Flash would do it for sure.

I am a member of three clubs and one has only 400 feet to land in. the others are 500 and 600 with long flat approach.
I just saw the P80 and Kingtech on the BVM site. I was comparing thrust and price. also trying to stay around 5000 or less. not going cheap on equipment, but the extreme jets and suitable turbines fit that bill for me. I always wanted an F-15 but the Skymaster ones look really old but might be ok. I would do the K-140 in it if would fit. The F-16 isnt bad but seems everyone has one or two. I do like the viper and not opposed to a fictional plane, just like the boomerang types.

The skymaster F-15 is an excellent choice. It flys well and would be great for someone new. I actually think a 100 would not be ideal in the F-15. The 140 would be perfect. It will not likely be close to 200 though. It has a lot of drag. You are probably looking at about 170mph. My buddy has one with a 30lb thrust turbine in it. He really likes it.

Service would be an important factor, if you ask the right questions you will find out quickly who keeping their engine owners happy and who isn't. (you may be surprised by the answers)

Whatever brand you get, it might be wise to ensure that you are not getting a first run of new production model. It appears to me it takes several months and a couple revs of ECU software to get the bugs ironed out. I do like the small size, weight and cost of the K-100 and it's all internal components, etc.. Also, the ECU is mostly end-user programmable, However, it's thrust is down a bit from the P-90 RXi that I currently have. That would be the hangup, for me. Comparatively, for me, the service for JC and Kingtech is a wash. I would have to ship either away for at least a couple weeks.

Hi,
It's true the P-80SE is an old design. It's kind of big and doesn't have the modern bling like internal solenoids, but it's still a VERY good engine. The reliability, cool running temps, quiet operation and good Jet Cat electronics make it a good engine any way you slice it.

Best choice with what's available...... No, in my opinion,
If you are good with the 80SE's larger size and heavier install.... You might as well go with the 90Rxi. At least you get a little more thrust for the other disadvantages.
Heck.... it's not even the cheapest choice. I really can't see why you would buy a 80SE new from the factory in today's market.
