Jordan,
I was studying the photos of your fuel lines etc. and don't see a fuel filter, where did you put it? Also, is there a specific measurement on where the fuel tank is supposed to be located, it's hard to tell from the photos exactly how far back to place the fuel tank.

Thanks,

Tom

I used a Festo 4mm fuel filter about 6" from the turbine mounted to the front of the Turbine rail. The fuel tank in mine was pre installed in its location and I placed it back in the same location after redoing the lines and clunk. I can measure it for you and get exact numbers and get back with you.

Been fooling around with mine.....took off the graphics that came on it ( thunderbirds comes with pilot decals). Got a complete set of Thunderbird graphics from Callie's graphics for 20! They are awesome! Also found 2 jet pilot figures on E-Bay for 9.00 each! Again awesome...very detailed....turbine should be here for mine tomorrow.

Gday fellas,
my buddy is considering this jet as an airframe only purchase here in Oz.
If some one would kindly, if possible tell me the dimensions of the gearbays, rails, length ect. He has a set of the Jet Legend Viper gear set, which is hoping to fit to this Jet.

Cheers

Matt

EXM NOT sold in US, and after getting my Dophin, don't want one anyway! Been installing stuff today. Ended up with 6.6 volt (2) electrodynamics 123's for receiver. Placed them alongside the air tanks. The 9.9 for ECU was too thick to put over the gear well, so I mounted it just aft of the air tanks on the bottom of the fuse. Hope that doesn't cause and CG issues. Retracts worked flawlessly...no leaks!. So far so good. Only problem I had was my wife's stupid cat knocked the canopy off my bench, and cracked it! Haven't figured out what I'm going to do about that yet....

Sorry to hear about the canopy. I would contact Tony and he can get you a replacement if it's not fixable. As far as CG... What turbine are you going to use. I used a 100g and I had to place my batteries as far forward as possible to balance without added weight. If you are using the 140 you will have balance issues with your current positioning. Look back at my layout photos and you will see where I put the 9.9 volt and the receiver packs.

Hello Matt. That gear should be a direct bolt in! I will try and get dims next time we get the jet to the flying field.

I can't get my ECU battery where you put yours. I have, however, 2 pilot figures, and seats which I don't think you used. Should help with the CG....I did go with the 140.

I'm nearing completion of mine. I tested the air systems today, no leaks and the gear cycle properly. I added an additional air tank to increase the capacity. Each cycle of the gear uses about 3 PSI and I think I'm going to install some air restrictors so the gear don't slam open and shut. I'm using the Jet Tronics electronic valves for both the retracts and the brakes rather than the mechanical valves/servos. I'm using one of these JetTronics Low Loss electronic valves on another plane for brakes and it works really well.

Because I'm going with a K140 I'm trying to get as much of the heavy stuff installed as far forward as possible. I put 2 x 2600 mah 2 cell lipos in the little compartment right in front of the nose gear retract cylinder, these will be for the receiver and servos. I'm using a 2100 man 3s LiFe for the turbine, which will sit nicely on top of the nose gear box. I always top off my batteries before each flight so I'm not worried the batteries will be too small. I installed a GBRJET air trap up against the front bulkhead (lower level) with the fuel pump next to it. I also used a Jersey Modeler Dry Break system and re-enforced the vent hole with 1/16" plywood. I've never used the Jersey Modeler system before, I really like the design and think it will be a huge improvement over just using fuel dots.

The only thing I have left to do in terms of installation is mounting the turbine, which I hope to do in the next couple of days. If everything goes well I plan on firing up the turbine next weekend. The maiden is still a few weeks away because I have to find a suitable place for the maiden (my field is not ideal for the maiden).

I will post some photos this week.

Good to hear Tip, if you are using the Jet Tronics Gear valve you don't need to run restricters in the airlines. The valve can be timed for a soft retract and deployment.

That's true, but doesn't it bleed air to slow the flow?

Jordan,
Can you confirm that the tail pipe should be positioned flush with the outside of the tail (not the wooden ring you install to hold it in place)?

it pulses the back pressure at the outlet side of the cylinders, so it shouldn't be really using air that isn't already in the system, I.e. wasting air. I use them in my big L39.

The tail pipe sticks past the last former about 3/16-1/4". Not flush with the tail

Did any of you find the servo leads mis-labeled in the turbine ready version? Mine were.......had to hook things up, and try the servos to see what was what. No big deal, but irritating.

Update on my build, I had a little delay due to some issues with my new K140, had to return it to have the festo fitting replaced and an adjustment to the starter clutch. The good news is that Barry got it turned around very quickly and I got it back yesterday, test ran it yesterday evening and it's running perfectly now. I installed it into the jet last night, now I just need to do some cable management and test run it in the jet and it will be ready to go!

Jordan, snow is gone, and getting excited to fly my dolphin. Question....I have the "big wing". Is it really necessary to use flaps on take off? Seems like it wouldn't be an issue....

I always use flaps on a maiden just incase. You have to take into account altitude density. Is it a hot day, no wind, high elevation ect... I'm building one right now for a customer with the big wing. And I can say the difference is big between the two wings when you see it in person. But I would make my first flight with flaps down ( take off setting) and Tony's numbers are right on for mix to elevator and settings for deployed flaps. If you have a lot of head wind may not be necessary but like to play it safe, all it's going to do is decrease your take off distance. Can't hurt. And make sure they drop the same exact distance on both sides to keep from having a trim situation on lift off. Hope this helps. J
