Default 8611A funky noise, is this normal? Just back from service

I just had my 8611A servos serviced, they came back today, however, they are making some funky noises, I compared them to a 8911HV servo.

Horizon Hobby Said this is ok.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLokvDLqO_A What do you guys think? They replaced all the servo gears and some of the servos had cases replaced as well.

I know where to get those servos for $0.12 less than you paid.

To me, they sound like typical metal geared servos, all be it a little louder than what I am used to. That being said, I have noticed that some of the MGed servos are getting noisier lately. The last for or five Apprentices we got were really loud. I would open one up, check the lube and test them with a little load on them. If they do not fail, they would go in the plane.

HI, I had the same noise , when the servo was installed up against a bolt, it put pressure on the case, it might be a alignment issue, also ckeck the amp. draw.
Also try loosing the case screws.

If the manufacturer blessed them off and the noise is in all of them, versus just one, then what is to worry? Checking the current draw is good also. But, you really need to know the normal specs to make any kind of knowledgeable comparison. But if the idle current is not zero, then there could be a problem. Do you have another same model servo that was not serviced to compare the current draws to. And If the current draws on all the rebuilt ones are all the same, I would not worry.

If you are still worried, call them up, ask the techs. If still worried send them back and let them decide.

Len is right, a little extra time ,a few extra dollars and peace of mind is a whole lot better then taking a chance and having to pick your plane up in pieces.

I do have other 8611A servos, they do not make the same type of "duck call" noise, these are currently installed in planes. These are the frist servos I have ever gotten that are making this type of noise. I think they forgot to lubricate them with lithium grease.

Take one apart and have a look, are they the ones with 1 plastic gear? Put some lube on them. Sometimes if you want it done right, gotta do it yourself.

Its defective!!! If it where me I would send it back and DEMAND a refund. I bought six of them and not one worked! I'll never do business with them again! Replaced them with Hobby King servos and saved $1.25, working flawless!

Or better yet I think I'll open an rc shop and sell hobby king and other cheap defective Chinese items for 5x the price under the pretense of non existent customer service, muahahha

Hi Disco I've rebuilt a lot of JR servos and one thing that i have noticed on servos that have 6 screws that hold the cap on is that if you tighten these screw all snugly the servo arm will rotate by hand in one direction but when you try and rotate the arm in the opposite direction the servo will lock up. Then if you back off the 2 center screws on the top cap it will unbind.i think your sevos are too noisy in my opinion. i would take the gears out and soak them in a cup of alcohol and brush them also with an acid brush. Then reassemble and make sure you use a adequate amount of white lithium grease. That's what i do with my servos when i realize they are getting noisy. By the way i love the Ultra Lightening i purchased from you last year!! I have 146 good flights on it now Take care

It may not be a bad idea to inspect the gears and add some grease if needed.
