Default Airworld Hawk 1:4.5 Pitot

After making many pitot probes for the CARF Hawk I have made my first one for the Airworld 1:4.5 Hawk
Tried to find a thread for the 1:4.5 but could not find one only the 1:4 thread.

Dave03B you need to send me your address and it will be on its way to you!

Hi Alan,
Thanks a lot. Looks like great work in the photos.

For info on the 1:4.5 Hawk see http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-j...ng-thread.html

I acquired the model recently; it's had a fair amount of use and is structurally sound and externally in good nick. A good friend is helping/advising me through a refurb of the internals.
Can't wait to start flying this one!

Hi Guys, Just spotted this thread. I would like one too please. One question though, is it hollow? I want to put a real Pitot head behind it if possible, and have the air fed from the scale probe. I was going to design my own and get it machined.

Hi John

Presently I turn them out of solid though I do put a inlet hole in the front for appearance.
For example the 1:4.5 is over 150mm so would be difficult to drill, the only practicable way I could see this being fully drilled is to make in sections and screw them together afterwards etc also ideally you would need to know what ID the hole would need to be I would have thought 1.5-2mm but I do not have any air speed probes to check
the end piece and centre could be drilled ok but the main piece out of the nose would need drilling from both ends. You can buy long special drills but they are not cheap!

Your thoughts?

Just a thought for guys installing the pitot tubes on the CARF Hawk is when you glue the moulding onto the fuselage please ensure you clean all paint off to reveal the fibreglass etc as with the weight/loading of having the aluminium probe on it could rip the extra moulding off the nose of the aircraft if you have just glued onto the paint etc. Use Hysol type glue for moulding and pitot insert.

Hi Alan,
This is a very good question indeed, as although the hole in the probe (which I have currently lost, along the the onboard engine display panel!) is only around 2 mm, I imagine that such a small hole is certain to cause some degree of misreading, and that the larger the hole the better from this point of view. Conversely if it is drilled out too large we may render it too weak! Could you ;let me know an approximate cost please?
Regards
John

Hi John

Just out in workshop making a probe, I will look at this tonight.
Also I would have to machine some sort of nipple for air pipe on back of the insert etc
Thinking I could make in sections (pre drilled) and slide fit them together but with Hysol
1:4.5 or 1:4?

Hi!
Sounds great.
Send it as a gift and set the value at $ 20 for avoiding tax on it.
Thanks for the service.
