Default The new Fei Bao Jets “Dolphin S” build thread by RCISFUN

Exclusively available in the USA through Jet Central USA

This will be my build thread for the new Fei Bao Sport jet, the Dolphin S with the custom paint scheme commissioned by Eric Clap from Jet Central USA.

In this thread I will attempt to cover the building sequence and the design of internal mounting components that I made during the assembly of this great model. Jet Central USA will have the wood kits available for the custom installation components. Additionally I have been asked by the factory to write the manual.

I starting working on this model in the beginning of October and have been photo documenting my work as I proceeded. I have designed all of the internal mounting parts in AutoCAD. Drawings will include fuel tank mountings, two nose mounted battery boxes, UAT mounting, mounting plates for servo connections and a balancing fixture.
Templates will be included in the manual for those who wish to fabricate on their own.

I will start off with photos of the completed model, specification of the various parts and then start posting my build sequence. The plan is to have the Model at FL Jets in March 2015 for Flight demos.

The basic specifications are as follows:

Length: 92 1/8” (2340 mm)

Wingspan: 81 5/8" (2073 mm)

CG Location 28% MAC: 10 1/8” (257 mm) from LE of Wing

Prototype Dry Weight with all components: 30 lbs (13.6 Kg)

Thrust Class: 22 to 36 lbs (100N to 160N) “Jet Central Cheetah used in prototype”

Fuel Capacity Right and Left Saddle Tanks: 34 oz ea (1000 ml ea)

Main Tank Capacity: 68 oz (2000 ml)

Total Fuel: 136 oz (4000 ml)

Pipe Length with Bell Mouth: 37.5” (952.5mm)

Rich,
Got one being built by Fei Bao myself. Unfortunately wont be here in time to be set up for Florida, but will have it in Wilson for First In Flight. Having the paint done in the RED BULL blue, silver.and yellow, and having it come with the Fei Bao electric retracts. I will get Eric to send me one of your wood packs for the install. Thanks for providing those.

Would like to post to this thread once it arrives if thats ok?

Putting a non SP Cheetah in it. Should be more than adequate.

Looking forward to it.

Take care.

Thank you Rich for the great introduction and as well, this excellent build thread. I know as it progresses, many questions will be answered and of course asked.

Jet Central USA is proud and privileged to have been selected as Fei Bao's newest dealer. More importantly, to have been chosen to offer Dolphin S exclusively to all US customers.
Dolphin S follows the very successful Dolphin which was introduced to the jet community at Jets over Kentucky last July. Flight demonstrations ongoing being flown in the very capable hands of Jim Hiller, demonstrated it's wide flight envelope from the very slow to large graceful IMAC style maneuvers to very fast flight. All with the Rhino SP 170 class turbine. It was not to be long before Dolphin S surfaced.

About the Model:

Dolphin S comes complete with airframe, turbine pipe w/ bellmouth, fuel tank, retracts, struts, wheels and brakes, complete air system and cockpit. Introductry price with air operated retracts is: $2,995.00 delivered in the lower 48. Electric retracts with controller are available for an additional $300. The pipe is designed to accommodate both 100 and 140 class turbines. Colors available are the one Rich posted, Vodephone, Ferrari and Red Bull. I will post later in this thread the additional stock colors. For an upcharge of $80.00 we will review and entertain any paint schemes our customers would like. Additionally, we offer a "Complete a Pak" laser cut wood kit which includes most if not all of the parts needed for securing install components. Included but not limited to are; tank mount, UAT mount, air tank mounts, battery mounts etc. I will provide a complete list after final review with Rich.

To date, 5 Dolphin S have been sold and are in production. With airframes built, they await paint and are scheduled to deliver after Chinese Holiday.

Dolphin S will be on display at Jet Central USA' tent at Florida Jets and. . .Fei Bao jet models tent. Jet Central USA is offering the Cortex Demon Gyro and Jet Central Rabbit or Cheetah at special show "combo" pricing during Florida Jets.

Fei Bao is excited, Rich Miller is excited and of course we are excited to present Dolphin S.

Sincerely,
Eric Clapp
Jet Central USA

Ok, mine just arrived and is sitting in our sunroom because the wife didn't want the box to get wet. It will be late today before I have a chance to inspect it. I would tell my director that i'm feeling bad and need to go home but he is a Doctor and my supervisor is a Physical Therapist. I would have to do a reeeeeealy good job of acting to get past them with the sick excuse.

Tell the truth... you have a brand new jet sitting at home and you can't think of anything else!
I'm sure they would understand....

I was able to wrap up the Dolphin S equipment install so I now can start packing for FL Jets

While testing the various controls I found that I had to flip the mounting position of the steering servo on the bracket to make clearance for the servo arm from the bottom fuselage.

Ok got to give mine a quick going over last night. Very happy with what I see so far. mine came with the electric retracts and brakes. Gear are very hefty. There was an electric retract controller included but no proportional controller for the brake. Will inquire further and update.
Hardware looked very usable. There was even an extra hatch latch and a replacement canopy screen included.

More to come.

Take care!
Mike

Mike:

Thanks for posting the pictures. I was not sure how the Red Bull colors would flow. . .But OH My, it really looks great ! Will certainly be an awesome presence in flight. A new "attention getter" in the NC fleet. I will ship off your Complete a Pak laser cut wood components install kit in the next few days.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Regards,
Eric

That looks really nice! I think if they flowed the yellow fuse stripe to the bottom of the Stab assembly it would be pretty cool looking!

If you get a chance can you take photos of the bottom of the stabs, also the electronic retract controller.

thats great to hear Fei Bao will be at FJ 2015. I have owned and been flying my MIG for many years now and never see any Fei-Bao representation. They make excellent kits and don't know why they are not flown. Granted my kit needed many modifications but if I am not mistaken, it was the first one of its type. It will be there again and it made the article in the AMA magazine, check it out.
