Default Sebart Mini Avanti S for Jetcat P-20

Unfortunately I was unable to make it to Jetpower 2014 but, having looked at the photos from the event, one little model stood out for me and that was the little Mini Avanti S from Sebart. When I saw the first photo it was mentioned that the model was designed for 90mm EDF and I immediately asked whether it might be suitable for a Jetcat P-20. As the model appears to be getting nearer to release, more details are emerging and it looks like, not only will it be suitable for Jetcat P-20, but Sebart will be selling a dedicated turbine conversion kit for it (as well as being suitable for the forementioned 90mm EDF)

To me, at first glance, it appears a little big for a P-20 but having seen a couple of video clips of it flying it looks like it goes really well. It won't be a rocket ship, with a power to weight ratio in the region of 0.7:1 but it is light and it appears to have low enough drag to allow it to carry its speed. If the power does prove to be sufficient then it looks like a perfect P-20 platform with a nice amount of wing area to make it a bit more pleasant to fly than some of the smaller offerings currently available.

I am hoping to be able to supply these to the UK but it's early days yet so that might not be possible, however I will certainly be getting one to try for myself.

Seba and I will be there, but I believe we'll only have an EDF equipped model to fly (sorry about that!).

And for anyone that may be interested, here's some info I posted in the build thread on another forum:

BTW, although this is an EDF forum, the Mini Avanti S can be set up with 90mm fans or a P20 turbine using the optional kit we'll offer separately including mounting parts, a tank and a pipe.

Also, for those that are interested in pre-ordering, as of today the pricing is not yet finalized but we currently ESTIMATE it will be $499.99 for the ARF airframe including the all-metal electric retracts (less power system and radio gear) for PRE-ORDERS. That said the final price could be a bit higher (but hopefully not more than $549.99 to $599.99), and we'll be sure to update this post as soon as the pricing is locked in! We're also estimating shipping to be around $55 to most addresses in the 48 contiguous states (maybe a little less to the west coast and a little more to the east coast) due to the relatively large size of the box.

And we currently expect to receive the first 'large' shipment in May. However, we may end up with more pre-orders than the number of models coming in so we strongly suggest pre-ordering sooner than later. No deposit or pre-payment is required at this time, and for customers located in North America (for those outside of North America please contact your nearest SebArt distributor for more info on pricing and availability: http://www.sebart.it/distributors.html) you can place a pre-order with us by email or phone (sorry, our e-commerce site is still in the design phase at the moment).

To place a pre-order by email please send your billing address, shipping address and phone number to: [email protected]. Please also let us know your trim/color scheme preference based on the images below (white/red 'style' or the more 'SebArt traditional' white/blue). You can also let us know 'either' if you don't mind which trim/color scheme you get (in case we run out of one trim/color scheme before the other when the shipment comes in).

It will be great to see an actual model regardless of the power system.

Hello everyone,

Please find additional images showing a P20 install below.

You can also see a quick video showing the take off of a P20 powered version here:

These are estimated to arrive at Sebart later this month and will hopefully be available for sale soon after. The UK price isn't yet confirmed but the Euro price has been listed as 500 Euros. This is pretty good when you consider that it includes the retracts and door sequencer. The turbine conversion kit (including mount, pipe and tank) is listed at 60 Euros.

if anyone in the UK would like to pre-order, either the turbine or EDF version, then please send me a PM.

I ordered one up last week with turbine kit so hope to have it soon. I am going with the P20 set up as I have one looking for a new home. Would like to see how you guys are getting on with the P20. Also will be flying off grass.

How are people getting on with their P-20 Mini Avantis?

Are they able to take off from grass with the P-20?

How is the gear holding up?

There are a couple very extensive threads over on the other forum (RCG)
The landing gear gets a lot of grief when grass is mentioned and last I knew has been upgraded to v2 (red in color) by Sebart.

If I were going to put a turbine in mine, I would definitely not use the stock struts although I have the 1st version and they are now using a different manufacturers version but there's not much feedback on them yet. The stock struts are fine if you grease every landing and are only flying off of a hard surface or a putting green. I am in the midst of retrofitting mine with Tam's struts.

Got around 40 flights on mine now off grass, changed the struts to tams after around 10 flights, not that they failed, but had great luck with tams in the past. Stock retracts and Tams struts are great combo until now.
Of course my Avanti is light weighing only 3050 grams with hopper full and lambert T35.

Regards
Chatty.

Hi chatty, what fuel tank size do you use? T35 seems to be a nice combo for this kit. I'm using P-20 and is still building. Taking off from the grass worries me.

this thread seems to have come to a halt.

Thanks, Jeff.

Hello Jeff,

Tank was initially 750ml, after a few flights I got a 850 bottle.
with the T35 I now get around 7 min of aggressive flying + fuel left for atleast 2 goarounds
The Avanti with the T35 takes off in around 200 feet from grass.

What a neat setup there! I have been trying to use your nose gear mechanical door method with the pull-pull system but I couldn't get the steering arm out from the retract. This one seems to be a v2 retract system.

I guess I'll proceed with the 650 bottle that came with the turbine kit just to keep the weight low. My runway is a 120 feet short grass.
