I have contacted Eric as well. I am very interested in this jet but need to have flight reports from a creditable source before I go for it. So glad that DW is doing this! His word is law. So for Dave i will say that now that i am flying jets i want one that is good at high aplha flight and bat turns. Something different. Jets like the various delta wing birds and canard types like Eurojets and J10's and Rafales, the F22 as well. I hope the F35 has these handling traits. I hope for good short field capabilities as well.

I feel the same. The video really made me reconsider this jet. From the moment it over rotated and leaped into the air it was kinda hard to watch. It is either pretty unstable or it was poorly flown. That could be due to a lot of things but it is not encouraging. Leaving the gear down and editing out the landing was to me a bad sign also. Now I am going to have to see one well flown with a working gear before I write any checks. I am cautiously optimistic though!

How many of us have had a maiden flight that went perfectly?
Having said that, what Im not impressed at is editing out a landing from an otherwise shaky flight.
I don't wish to discourage the manufacturer from posting early videos, but to remove the part we want to see, no matter how poor it was.....
we could already tell from the approach that it wasn't going to be a great landing, no need to hide it
Were interested in your plane, and are more than willing to forgive early unstable flights, but removing footage is not cool.
But whats with the chinese characters- if i wanted a chinese ARF, id buy a JL F35.

If this plane is ready to sell I hope they have done at least 50 hard well trimmed flights with everything working. If that flight was the only flight it has done then they start selling it that's bad news. That is my only thing. They must have had some better flights with it all trimmed out that they could have taken video. Derjet has always seemed like a good company so pretty sure its been flown more. Now flyeage would have put it into mass production after a flight like that lol.

Guys chill. The videos of the first FEJ F-35s were similar. It is pitch sensitive so it takes some getting used to. But once trimmed and set they fly good.
The pilot is not aware that the JSF sucks with gear extended. Lots of side load and drag. The area looks crappy for test flying too.
I wouldnt be discouraged. I'm sure it will fly fine once they nail down the CG and controls.

Patience my friends, I agree with everything said, but I saw enough to know the product will be good. There are several thing s about that first model not known, like tight live hinges and locked gear. No flap on take off etc etc.

Unfortunately I have struggled with time and have only done minor jobs. Too busy in the office and then a short holiday meant I missed the hoped for date last weekend. We have another meeting early May that is my next target! Will post as I progress.
Jack has emailed today with a hurry up call :-)
