Just a heads up on the Sears compressor. It's on sale today for $41.58.

Bob, that's a quasi disposable air compressor. Those fried pickles and peppers you made us eat would be more reliable in delivering compressed air

Thanks for sharing Marty. I purchased one two weeks ago at the original price, but called AMEX today and they refunded the price difference.

I have 3 kids in private school so every $20 counts! :-)

If this is the one that looks somewhat like a cordless drill, this is what I use too. I bought it with the Lipo battery and while a bit more expensive, it seems to run forever on a single charge. It's small has a built in pressure gauge and works well. I like it a lot..

I got one of these at Target about 5 years abpgo for $15. They make one for 20-25 with a gauge on it at Walmart. I use a cheapo 3s 4000mah and only need to charge it once a year for the most part. Had an expensive pistol grip one and the battery died after a year. I am on the same battery and $15 inflator now for 5 years.

Update
My Porter Cable compressor died. It has a leak in the motor/compressor somewhere and it over heats. I only used it for one painting project and some airbrush work so very little time on it even though I've had it for some years. It's the smaller red semi spherical tank and pump unit.

Not recommended!!!

My porter cable is still going strong after 11 years (geez time fly) used for 2 large RENO and one basement in a half....a few planes and plenty of project in between...

I will be using a IQ hammer fuel/air system this summer hopefully it will last a long time....

I just got back from Sears, with one of the inflators ($59.99) and a battery(39.99) for same. The guy told me if I had a charger with the right chemistry, I didn't need to buy the charger/Battery combo (For another 80 bucks) So, does anyone know which terminals on the battery to hook up? There are 4 of them.

Terry, Sears' website still shows they are on sale today $41.58. The battery and charger combo are also on sale for $59.00.

The yellow pump shown in the pictures is a very cheap one from Harbor Freight. It is powered by my general purpose 12 Volt, 12AH motorcycle wet battery on my field box. That scale twin war bird is not flown every weekend but the pump has been used with it for about four years. The manual pump in the picture is only used to actuate a single gear on the bench during maintenance and is only taken to the field as a backup.

Here you go Terry, just did this last week. Im using my Hitec charger. Note, I am bypassing the internal circuit as Im not 100% sure of what it does. It may be a balancer, or a regulator.

The prices I quoted in the above post are what was posted at the brick and mortar Sears store here in the Fort. I couldn't see spending that much on a charger when I have Lipo chargers in my field box..........I didn't check on line.......My bad

Another nice feature on the craftsman is the adjustable digital shut off gauge. I got the ni-cad. Love it.

I have one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/VIAIR-85P-Port...compressor+kit

Quiet and efficient, built in guage.

I took a schraeder tire stem, cut the threads off square and ground a face flush on the backside. The thread is metric - 5mm I think - got the fitting from Dreamworks and installed it in the end of the hose and connected a 4mm line. Also strapped a 22003s pack which will run it for a day of use no problem. The only mod you have to do is open the rear cover and cut the lead to the LED so it doesnt drain the battery.

PaulD

Fills even large tanks in short time.

Thanks for the headsup. I thought my Hyperion was capable of supporting Lion chemistry, but as it turns out only my Hitec supports Lion with per cell voltage setting. But after seeing the battery has a charge monitor and balance circuit I opted to go with the Craftsman charger since it was on sale.. BTW, there are similar circuits being added to the new Life based equivalents of the 12v gell cells now being offered for various applications.

I did notice that the higher capacity Lithium with the tri color LED test button has some circuitry as the voltage I read off the contacts was around 7.8 volts but on the lower capacity battery I have, I read the full 19+ volts.

How are you guys connecting the tubing to go from the pump to the retracts. It seems the tubing is not really compatible to hook up to the pump.

You can chop up an old tire valve and solder a nipple to fit the 3mm airline or just use one of those small inflators for a sports ball.

I have 4 of the cheap all dead in a pile. I think allot depends on how much you fly not haw many years it lasted. I can kill one of those cheap SLIME airpumps in 3 or 4 months. I killed 2 already. Then killed a heavy duty inflator and the harbor freight pump also died.

Finally broke down and bought the sears inflator and have never been happier.

I used to use an electric pump. I grabbed my manual tire pump in the garage and checked it. It took about 8 pumps to go from empty to 100psi. I stopped messing with electric pumps at that point. Admittedly I don't have the Sears one but my manual pump is way faster than my electric one. Literally less than 15 seconds from empty to full.

You must have a dandy bike pump. I tried one of the Robart pumps when I put my first model with retracts together. I converted it to dual air tanks and the first try at filling them with the Robart pump convinced me something better was required for an FOG.....

I looked at about every air pump available around here and the Sears unit won hands down. I have to admit that I didn't bother looking at the box much and only discovered when I got home that there was no battery or charger.....

So I went and got the special two NiCD batteries with a charger special. The pump worked well but I wasn't too keen on the NiCD batteries. When the Li-Ion battery and charger came out I got one and have been really pleased with the pump especially for the jets I'm flying now.

Thanks to afterburner's heads up, I got a second battery and charger and that charger can stay in my trailer. I also got a pump, battery (Lithium) and charger for my brother so I made good use of the information he posted.

Oh, as mentioned, everyone around here is just buying the inflation needles for sports balls. They fit the airpump hose and you just slide a piece of the airline for the model onto the needle, or I still have one model that's got the conventional valve stem deal and it works on that as well.
