Thanks. It was a lot of work wasted but I am much happier with the new scheme

I learned the hard way that for me, painting is about patience and practice. This was my first attempt at using a HVLP paint gun. I used some cheap paint and practiced painting on cardboard learning how to setup the gun. That helped because so far, I haven't had any runs.

It's been a while since the last update so here's where things are. The painting has been completed but I did run into an issue with the clear. As the clear dried it left spotty, hazy areas. I believe the hazing may have been caused by it being too humid on the day I sprayed the clear. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy and I put the plane aside for a while. Now, I've come to the conclusion to just fly it as it is and I may strip it later and repaint it later.

All of the equipment has been installed. The canopy and windshield need to be sprayed with clear but I'm waiting on for the humidity to decrease before doing that. I took it to field yesterday for range and taxi testing. Depending on the weather, the maiden will be next weekend.

You'll really enjoy your Viper, Kirk. They are great flying jets. Depending on the length of your field, you may want to consider adding crow with full flaps for landing. Mine wanted to float but the crow took care of it. Wishing you the best with your maiden.

Thanks Mike. I've been considering crow. How much do you have in yours?

On your paint issue, it's referred to as blushing and is usually caused by too high of humidity, as you mentioned. My guess is that you're shooting outside or in a garage with the door up. There's no need to strip all of the paint off. Wait until the air gets drier, you're not that far from me, so I'd guess late Sep to early Oct. Wet sand the clear coat with 600 then re-shoot the clear.

looking forward to see this baby take to the skies and with the K-180 for power you will not have any problem clearing those trees at the end... just kidding My viper weights more than yours but the flight maiden surprising to me.

Thanks Mike. Good to hear that I won't need to strip the paint and start over.

Not yet...I'm planning to install a igyro on the viper and since it's my first gyro setup I'm going to do most of the testing during the week until I'm comfortable with flying with one. Then I will try for the weekend

Hey Mike, how did you do in geography back in high school? Not to well I'm guessing. It's 2,336 miles from where you live to Pasadena. At least you gave Kirk some good information.

See you next month at SJS?

Hey Craig, Hope that you don't do your own taxes or flight planning.... Pasadena MD is only 133 miles from me.

Definitely coming to SJS. Wouldn't miss it! You open to flying the A-10s together again? See you then.

Oh, that Pasadena. Who knew?

Sure, I'm up for some A-10 flying if you think you can handle it.
