Wow, that was really close with the golf cart! That could have been very bad.

Thanks for posting the photos and videos. Looked like a strong cross wind.

Spotters should have held the take off on that one or whoever was in charge of the active taxi or runway. That would have been a very bad scene...

Argyris,
With all sincerity, thanks for taking the time to gather the videos and post them to this thread to make it worth reading and viewing. Glad to see that you weren't offended (I hope you weren't offended) at my attempt to make light of the comment about the music.
You contributed much to this thread and made it enjoyable. Thanks.

What!! That was a serious violation, one of those guys or both could be injured. Someone should report that to the air boss or safety manager.

Yea, Yea, lets report it! Do you really think that will help? It was an accident, no pilot is going to put anyone in harms way. When you are cleared for takeoff you are relying on your caller and the station boss to insure that things are clear. It's busy out there and things happen fast, everyone was relived that it had a uneventful outcome.

Yes, it would help to prevent a next time. One or both guys in the golf cart could be dead now . Totally preventable.

Frank has a debrief meeting with the work crew after every event. This incident will be reviewed and measures will be put in place to prevent it in the future.

In a nutshell it appears guys in golf cart "held short" of the "runway" but did not take into account that the alternate grass runway was active.

Great save by the pilot, Greg Foushi.

Does the link take you to the www.franktiano.com website at all? Results are on the "Top Gun" page. The results are in the left column. I just clicked the link from my earlier post and it works for me.....

A few questions. Are there any rules about gyros or does everyone use them now? Seems like a hugely unfair advantage to use in a "flying competition." Was it really windy there? Seems like a bunch of aborted or rough landings? Who won? Is there a link to the winners?

oops, should have kept reading entire thread, found the results.

gyros are allowed in competition at Top Gun. The majority of the pilots there use them but there are exceptions. I do not use one. I agree that it is "a hugely unfair advantage" but the guys that are using them say it is not :-)

separates the men from the boys in a crosswind like we had if you ask me, but that is just my humble opinion........
