One question. The kingtech gearbox shaft has a 12mm pin, but the biela propeller has the shaft 10mm.
What can I do in this case?

If I remember correctly, the prop bolts for the KT-60tp are 10mm in diameter and should fit perfectly in the Biela propeller. So only enlarge the hole enough at the base of the Biela prop to 12 mm to fit the prop shaft extention of the engine.

What tolo is used to enlarge the hole? Would the carbon fiber accept using a regular 12mm drill bit without being damaged in the process?

Hi Scrogerio,

I did it and works fine. You just need to drill about 6mm deep on the back side of prop as it is only for the shaft you that is 12mm. Sharp drill and low speed will do the job.

Have a great Day

Kingtech k60TP is a big engine but the reduction box is very noisy, if we compare with jetcat or jetcentral.
anyone managed to reduce the noise of the gearbox?

I don't know if there is anything to be done about the gearbox noise, but I would suggest you verify that lubrication is flowing through the supply line to the gearbox. If so, just enjoy the power/performance the Kt-60tp gives your plane. I never notice much noise from the gearbox on my K-60tp, but the noise was pretty loud on the Skymaster flight videos of the PC-21.

Anyway, just notice that the Kingtech 45 size turboprop engine has been released. I hope the Kt-100tp is released soon.

Hi Scrogerio,

The box is louder that the other TP units but it produces more power. Must say with the 23 X 14 Biela 5 blade prop the box is a lot less noisy and the performance is even better and have found that the TP unit runs a bit cooler and you can really slow the plane down more in the descent. Also has more of a turbo prop sound.

Have a great day

Regard's

I'm not big on using drill bits for this type of hole enlargement, it's really tough to get the new hole centered although it's not as big an issue where the enlargement does not go all the way through.

I've the same issue with the crankshaft on my Saito FG-84R radial engine; the prop shaft section is two diameters with the back section 12mm and about half way through the prop it changes to 10mm. I just bought a step reamer which has the 12mm final size. I enlarged the backside of some Biela three blade carbon fiber props. Works great and is very cleanly done.

Will post info as soon as the plane is back in the air. Interesting thing about the KT-100 tp, it comes with three Festo connectors on the gearbox. One is for lubrication, but waiting for info about properly connecting the other two before completing engine installation.

Just got back from Kentucky Jets 2017. I did fly the PC-21 which is powered byKingtech 100 turbo prop engine with a 24x23.5 five-blade propeller attached. IMO, the model performed extremely well with this engine/prop combination. The plane has good speed (according to Spectrum GPS, the model reached a speed of 160+ in level flight) and impressive vertical performance. Unfortunately, not sure if any videos were made either of the flight.

Anyway, if you are interested in a turbo prop powered model, I suggest you serious considered a kingtech turbo prop engi e for your project

Unfortunately, I didn't take any video of any of my flights. Since there were two PC-21 at Jets Over Kentucky, someone may have video that might be posted later. By the way, both planes were powered by the Kingtech 100 turbo prop engine, and both had the Skymaster 24x24 five-blade propeller attached (perfect engine/prop combo for this model, IMO).

So what's the latest on props for the KT60. I'm currently running a 3 blade SEP on a Tucano and happy with the performance but don't know the exact size (came with the engine which I got used).

What at options are there in 3 blade props that are working for people? Biela? SEP?

cheers,

PaulD

The Biela 24x22 three-blade and the SEP 24x22 three-blade props will work. I have also used the Fiala 24x17 three--blade prop.

Hey David,

think the SEP 24x22 3 blade is what I have. Gonna check out the Biela as well and get another on order. Feeling nervous with no spare.

Thanks for for the input.

cheers,

PaulD

Has anyone thought of replacing k60tp with a k85g2?

I just purchased a K60TP to replace a Jetcat SPT5 in my CARF Tucano.

I've read so many different recommendations about the prop size to use. Any new suggestions now that there's more experience with this turbine ? 24 x 22 is still the recommended prop ?

I ran the Beila 24x22 three-blade, the SEP 24x22 three-blade, and the Fiala 24x17 three-blade props on the Kingtech K-60 tp engine. IMO, I believe the performance is better with the 24x22 three-blade propeller.

David. Thanks for your quick reply. I guess I will have to buy a new prop then since I only had the 24 x 12 that I was using in the SPT5. Hopefully this new turbine will make the Tucano move better than with the Jetcat (which I always found to be too small for the Tucano).
