I got three flights in yesterday. Our field is bumpy and the grass has started to grow a bit... Pretty tough to take off. The take off flaps did make a difference. Landing was comedy, it was like the runway had glue on it, plane landed and immediately stopped.

My K45 was taking a while to start, running the electric motor for quite a while. The little 2100life pack was good for one flight before I would get the "pump voltage exceeded" message. I don't get that message when the battery is topped off, so guessing its not a setting in the ECU. just needs more juice?? Anyway, I am going to put a slightly larger battery pack in for the turbine. Like to get two flights without charging. I've done it before, but the turbine cuts to half throttle. Nice that it doesn't cut out completely!

Unlimited vertical with this thing, pretty cool ;-)

Is this mix compatible with the Kingtech K45g ?

In the manual, it's saying only Kingtech Oil. This oil is UNAVAILABLE in France.
May I use 2 strokes oil?

Is MOBIL Jet Oil 2 is the same as Kingtech Oil?

Except for this petrol/oil question I'm ready to test the turbine on the bench.

[edit]
Found a thread were the kingtech guy say NO 2 strokes oil at all in all of the G serie turbines, or else!
So I'll wait to find so good oil...
Too bad for my 20 liters that is now considered scrap...

There is an oil that works, call or email Barry.

Marcus

You really need to see what the various manufacturers suggest to use. You don't want to run the risk of voiding a warranty just because of oil being used. King tech like to use a special compressor oil with an additive. I think you can now get Kingtech oil from Colchester A1 models in the UK. http://www.colchestera1models.co.uk/...ory&cat_id=166
I know they were going to get some in stock so would be worth contacting them.

Jets Munt are pretty relaxed about oils, but get in touch with them.

All the model turbines use the same bearings but they do run at different temperatures, hence the possible need for different oils.

2 stroke oil can be very gummy when heated inside the engine, and I found the only one that was worth using was the expensive fully synthetic oil. Having said that I now only use turbine oil.

Hey Marcus, I just did the ounce conversion with that 1500ml tank. 50 ounces will give you great flying time, but I think it might be really heavy initially. I think most of us have done around the 30oz size or around 900ml. I'm sure it fits, just not sure the extra weight is a great idea. FYI, with 30 ounce tank I'm getting 4:30 with quite a bit of full throttle flying.

We have done a bunch of testing on our (7) K45s and 40oz tank will give you 5 minutes of full throttle with a few oz of reserve.

Dr. Scoles, I have used 2100 and 1800mah packs on the 45. No issues at all. I will agree that the K45 does take longer than my others to get running.

I have only this tank for now. So I'll fill it with 1 liter only for the first few flights. After I'll see how it goes.

Just for info, what would YOU say is max weight total ?

[edit]
I finally ordered a 1liter tank...

Not sure, some of the weight nazi's here have got me scared… lol I know that with 30oz of fuel, I had a really hard time taking off on our grass which has grown a little bit. A month ago, it was easy. No way it would have taken off with two more pounds of fuel on board. If you're on a paved runway, less to worry about.

Yeah, just saw your site, 13€/ltrs, that's a very reasonable price!

Too bad I just ordered 2 ltrs of BP2380....

I'll keep the link for next time for sure if kingtech france still doesn't have it :-)

Thanks

[edit]
Well, I finally ordered 2l Kingtech Oil from your store Berto :-)

This plane seems to be in short supply lately.
Most dealers show it Out of Stock?

Thanks for the useful info - but I'd like to confirm something: when you say you used "40oz" tanks, is that actual confirmed oz of Kero, or is that the glo-fuel size of the tank? Reason I asked is that your cited consumption of 7.5-8oz/mn is substantially higher than the Kingtech advertised spec of 5.50z/min. Glo fuel has spec gravity of 1.1+, vs kero at 0.8. Interestingly, if I multiply 40oz by 0.72, I get 5.750z/min, which is a lot closer to the Kingtech claim. Also curious what the GSU tells you the consumption is in ml/min and whether that is consistent from motor to motor.

Sorry for all the questions - I'm a geek I guess.

TT,

i gave burn rate in fluid oz as most of us choose tank size by volume. KT lists fuel burn in weight oz. our fuel burn is close to the stated fuel burn if you convert to fluid oz.

OK, thanks. I have a scratch build F-106 project that the K-45 would be perfect for, hence my interest in your results.

And the Sebart Mini Avanti S tanks fits perfectly.

Here installed with canopy but even with the cockpit installed the tank will fit.

Berto.
