He's still making pipes and maybe on vacation or something... Hope you get your pipe soon.

Tam has started a full time job on the side, working long hours to make ends meet. just talked to him two days ago. I wont order anything big for now since he has no time to make them and or no money can be made. pipes are hard since cost of SS is up, struts are tough too since he's not tooling anymore on them. I really think the end is coming for Tam jets product. He still has some ARF jet kits for sale, but not much left of other stuff. parts bin is getting emptier too. hope to see him at the Best in the west this year!

I would look to JP Hobby for struts for the Mini Avanti. They seem to be making them for the AvantI XS and the CARF Joker.

A25afm, I may have a grumania pipe that will work for you. I just broke down my little A-7 and put it on the ceiling as a display item. The pipe is the same size as the one in the avanti... just need to know if its the right length. If you need one, let me know and I will dig it out and measure it.

Does anyone know where to order the retracts (actual retract, not struts) from? My nose gear is acting up.

Hi Bob, the JP ones I have looked at seem to be for a 120mm size. Do you know if they make smaller ones?

Also any suggestions where to purchase JP struts from?

Thanks

So what are the thoughts on putting in the new Kingtech K70?
Same size, A touch heavier. More fuel consumption. Bunch more thrust!

As long as you turned it down to a 45 I think you'd be fine.... ;-). If you read the first post on this thread (by me) I was the guinea pig on putting the larger turbine in this air frame. The plane was given to me by sebartUSA to test the theory. I have flown full throttle passes and done climb outs and the wings stayed on. Not sure that would be the case with a 70 going full tilt. The 45 power wise is perfect. You can accelerate vertical.... not sure you need much more.

If I didn't have the turbine yet, I would probably buy the 70 and turn it down. Just for flexibility on future projects.

The flexibility is where I was going with this as well. Options in the future.

Will the K70 be more efficient at than the 45 at 45 pounds thrust?

A friend of mine that just got a 70 and has a full test rig. I asked him to test fuel consumption at 45 N thrust and check idle thrust to see if a K70 turned down to a 45 is better, equal to, or worse than just using a K45.

Are the JP retracts more reliable than the V1 retracts? The JP Hobby ER005 is the drop in replacement, mounting holes lines up with the V1 units. They also sell in a set with struts that I can part with if I decide to go that route, since I've got a set with the tam struts that I use.

I think I have gone thru at least 5 units of the V1 retracts and the hobbyking units that are interchangeable with the V1 units. Never failed in the air, but always when assembling the model at the field. Last week I found myself at the field in perfect conditions, when one of the mains stopped working, and the Mini Avanti was the only model I brought. Pretty annoying...

Edit; link to the retract set for the Mini Avanti: https://www.turbines-rc.com/en/strut...ls-brakes.html

I received no response from him either.

There seems to be a big hole now in the market for suppliers of high quality 90 mm long trailing link struts.

I have spent hours and hours trying to find a source for these.

We miss you Tam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 6 weeks and no response from Tam. I think the TJ strut days are over.
