One more thing, bumped up my timer to 5:30 and mostly fly at half throttle unless doing the straight up thing, still had the second tank close to half full on landing.

I bought my mini avanti at Jet power and although i also got the stock edf power plant with it i a seriously considering to converted to turbine and getting the K45.
I have also bought (at the recommendation of Seba, the electric set of wheels and brakes from Skymaster which are a drop fit replacement of the main. the only thing to do is enlarge the wheel wells in the wings.

Has anyone tried those wheels and brakes?

regards.,

The Tam's set were a drop in, no trimming necessary. But you must have much larger wheels?? The electric brakes I purchased are not working well. Gotta experiment with different battery voltages. They worked great initially, not sure if I cooked them or not.

I installed electric brakes from HK, and they are working great.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__48222__Dr_MadThrust_2_0_34_51mm_Main_Wheels_with _Electro_Magnetic_Braking_System_2pc_.html
They are almost drop in, you just have to drill a 4 mm hole at the wheel link.

I am waiting for Tam´s struts finally. My road field is very soft (we have a carpet over the road), but I decided buy them just because of the brakes, since finale the hole plane is pushing the struts forward and the wheels backwards... just to make sure, I don like to be making adjustments on field due to poor quality parts getting damaged. Worse thing, I will have to wait two weeks for maiden.

Ohhhh... one suggestion: About brakes, make sure the wheel shaft is propperly attached to the strut, better to do a little whole on the shaft were the screw fits in, just to avoid the shaft to spin- If it happens the brake wire will break, since it will spin with the wheel. Once I get Tams strut, I am plannin to ad a quick connector (like a servo one) the closest to the wheel, so if it spins, the wheel brake will disconnect by itself. Of course I am doing it because it happened to me last friday, while testing the plane on road.

For those of you flying this little beauty how do you think it would do for short fields (paved runway)? I would love to fly a jet at my local field, it is long enough for my Electra and Habu 32. But not good for my larger scale jets due to the length and thousands of squirrel holes, a runway excursion would rip the gear off for sure. And of course we generally have dead calm or a direct crosswind.

I think with the K45, it would be fine for a short runway. I had an 8S habu 32 and the avanti takes off much faster than it. I have not used take off flaps either.

i guess woring about short landing is way more important than take off. is the Mini Avanti powered with a K45 safe enough to land on a paved runway of 110 meters long with no room for error!!

Thanks, Regards,

I think so. With working brakes it would be even easier… ;-)

I can't wait till it I get it. I will post more pictures prior to maiden and a few inflight shots.

Thank you for all your hard work..

That BVM brake thing is huge! Can you share a pic of what the hub on the wheels looks like?

Our local grass field is open to jets now that it will be wet for the next 9 months.... This field will be a good test for the landing gear.

Mike.. This is what the BVM eBrake looks like. Per Danny it does not lock the wheels but does create good enough friction...

I will report on their functionality after the maiden..

When i bought the mini avanti at jet power with EDF power plant, i also got the combo which included the servos. Would it still be ok to use those knowing that i will convert it to turbine K45? otherwise what servos would fit best?

Thanks in advance

Default Graupner DS 586 BB

The Graupner DES 586 BB are almost a drop in fit!
I used them all around the Avanti S Mini together with Futaba parts and Bavarian Demon :-)

Henk,

Thanks for the feedback looking at the Graupner DES 586 BB specs, it seems that this servo has plastic and carbonite gears. Wouldn't metal gears be more adequate for this application?

Thanks, regards

Drilled and tapped the struts for 4-40 screws. Then worked the alignment blocks to get the doors aligned.

F1, your equipment list is about 95% the same as mine and the wiring looks great. I have a bad case of OCD when it comes to organized wiring

Do you mind if I shoot you a pm and ask a few specifics?

My kit and turbine will be in this Friday and this happens to be my first turbine powered jet.

So far, this is what I have

Avanti w/edf combo
K45
Jeti DS16
Rex 12 rx
Dual rx batteries
ECU battery
R3 rx for the sat
DSM10 switch
Cortex
(3) BK 3001's for rudder and ailerons
(4) Spec 4030's for the rest

Cheers,

sawacs

Today I maiden the Mini Avanti with K45 built by Danny at the "Rocket Factory"... 3/4 down the 600 feet runway it rotated. Gears up flaps up.. needed two clicks of up elevator and one click right aileron and I'm flying this jet as if it has flown before. It was so dialed in that I did maneuvers on the first flight. On Landing 1stage flaps.. no pitch change, gears down and then full flaps.. it needed two more click up elevator and it landed like a dream.

I had a total of 5 flights today and the last flight I "hot fueled" and flew again... This is ANOTHER "Well built Jet" by Danny... Thank you very much Danny..

One issue I had today and that goes with my style of flying is that the kevlar tank from Tam (built by Jet Tech) is 32 oz and with my style of flying I only got 4 minutes of flight time and landed with 25% fuel left. I have a call into Gary at Jet Tech and discuss the possibility of making me a bigger tank (Taller and longer).

Overall I'm very happy with this little jet.. Thinking of a second one "as Backup"..

Congrads on the test flight: sounds like a great flying machine.

The K45, #136, along with 2 gallons of oil arrived today and the plane will be arriving tomorrow. The real trick will be getting some sleep tonight

The 4 minutes of flying with 32 oz does have me a little concerned. Were you running Diesel or Kerosene? I ordered two 16 oz tanks but might change that to one 24 oz with 12 oz tank sitting on top.

Cheers!

Sawacs

Sawacs.... 32 oz could possibly give you a good 5 min.. It all has to do with the style of your flying and throttle management...

I see that you are using two Rx batteries as well as ECU battery... Danny's brilliant idea was to use a bigger 3 cell LiFe battery (3800 mah 9.9V) to feed the ECU and the servos.. Of course he used a regulator to lower to 8.4 for the HV servos. The system uses 350mah per 4-5 min flight..
