Guys, I was visiting Australia in March and saw Tyson fly his Mini Avanti (build pics a few posts up) - great little flier, so I had to order a kit. I don't have a turbine yet and my first priority is my beautiful REBEL build but I'm also looking forward to getting started on the mini Avanti later in the year.
Thanks very much to Ty for hosting me at TMAC and even offering me a flight on the Mini Avanti. With the combination of a different TX mode and jetlag I was happy just to take snaps - Here are the pics, hope you like them.

I have a cortex in my Ultra Flash, BVM BobCat, and BVM Bandit MKII. Cortex makes the planes fly so much better. For some reason I can't get the cortex to work correctly on my Mini Avanti with K45. I can't figure out if the gain is too much or too little. So far I have flown the plane 9 flights and with every flight I have tried different gain configurations from 20% up to 52% in regular flight. All these configurations caused the ailerons to oscillate but not a lot. I have to admit that I had not changed the servo configuration to "digital" from it's default of "analog" within the software. I'm using Spektrum 3040 digitals on all surfaces. I have since changed the servo configuration to "digital" within the software but have not flown the plane. I'm not sure if this is the problem or the cortex is not playing nice with these servos. On all my other jets I use JR digital servos.

If the oscillations are speed dependent (stop when the airplane is slowed) the gain is too high for the airspeed you are flying. If the oscillations are constant small movements regardless of speed or gain setting then it may be servo and or control system (slop) related. FYI, firmware v16 has just been released for the Cortex and provides an even more precise feel in normal mode.

Hi Gents, just checked my TX and I have +15 normal mode and -28 heading hold on the 3e in my mini. Obviously, depending on servo speed and throw, everyone will have slightly different. I do however fly with a significant amount of through and about 10-15% expo depending on the surface.
It is important to note, that with the gyro on, you can back off your expo significantly.

I got some awesome little electric brakes (with awesome wheels) from an Aussie supplier here for my Mini Avanti yesterday. I have to say super impressed. Installed with mini bearings and power supply from my RX. They don't come to a complete lock which is awesome. I note a few lads on here have upgated their retracts. I haven't found a problem with mine, but we do fly of grass here in Aussie land (photos above). The axles also already have a flat in the spot for straight swap over on my existing legs!!;

I have them on my mini Avanti ... They are great but the brakes have an auto shut down feature (the brakes release) after they have been locked for over one minute. It says this will conserve battery.
Some what annoying if you want to use is as long term parking brake. I am working on a "repeatable sequencing" function to release the brakes and re engage as long as the brake lever is engaged.

What diameter are the wheels ?

I just installed the Tam struts, only can't get the play out the nose leg?? (back and forward movement)
I'm using the supplied brass tubing cause the Tam pins are 4mm and the V2 pins are 5mm.
The steering horn/device/thing that goes around the 4mm pin, i can't get that that tight that the play is out, but still move's to steer :-(
Any one an suggestion?

I still fly with the original V1 retracts from grass.
Don't understand what the problem is with the V1's except the 4 mm connecting pins are to soft.
You can always modify you're steering system to "pull pull" to get the tightness. So much stronger as well.
Also get rid of the nose door servo's and sequencer box and make it mechanical. Saves a lot of weight and LDG extending /retracting is a bit faster.

Jep, i i'm giving that a tough't but for now i'm fighting the play in the Tam struts, i'm going to put an brass sleeve in the steering collar so hopefully that will get the play out.
I also changed the wheels to 57mm to get an better "roll" on grass. Lets see how it all works out. Had to make an opening in the doors.
My landings where all as soft as soft can be, only our field was soft due to an clay soil.
The gears got ripped out the wings during take of, but all is repaired now.

Made 5 flights today with the Tam struts and 57mm wheels.
This is an night and day difference compared to the original struts and small wheels.
I'm very happy with the whole setup now, it's really an nice little toy

I wanted to give you guys an update as to what happened with the cortex gyro oscillation problem that I was having. I went into the programming of the gyro and changed the setting from analog to digital servos since I'm using spectrum A4030 digital servos. In addition, I upgraded the firmware to the latest v16. I flew the plane two days ago and everything was solid. No oscillation. I used 35% gyro gain on regular flight with flaps up, 75% with take off flap, and 80% with landing flap with crow. Solid in every flight mode. Loving this plane.

Had my GSU hooked up yesterday to have a look where i was on the timer, 7hrs on the mini now 39 flights and still going Strong!
It's just such an nice bird ia all aspects!

The wings are really china labour, and one tiny tiny mistake and the whole lot wil be ripped to

Just love these "small" put all build up in the back of your car Fun Toy's!!
Saying that, just received K45 #213 something's telling me that these "litte ones" become more and more popular
So come on manufacturer's scratch your head and start looking in these small ones
