Jet transportation question
We close on a new house in a few days. Huge positive is that I'll have a 26x28' shop dedicated to toys, no kids stuff, no gardening or house stuff, just planes, guns and tools. Minus is that I'm gonna have to give up my 6x10 trailer. The house is on a very steep hill and the driveway is a serpentine of death with high retaining walls on each side. Backing in the trailer is futile. I'm looking at dodge sprinters, but worried about the smell of kero and gas. For those of you who use SUV's or vans, is the smell that bad? I can't see avoiding it, and the sprinters don't have any venting in the back, might have to add it. Its cold enough here that driving with the windows cracked would be a pain.

I don't know about that vehicle, but I can tell you this,, I have an 18ft trailer, I keep all my jets in it, I also set up the front of the trailer, with a bed, A/C, DVD/Microwave,, ETC. So we could stay In it when traveling to events. I do not have any type of partition in the trailer separating the front from the back, it is all open, We sleep in the trailer, I do not leave my jets out at night, I have never noticed the smell of fuel in the trailer, I run Jet-A and it stinks, If it were bad I would smell it. And BELIEVE ME, my WIFE would let me know about it if she smelled fuel.. Hope this helps

I drive a full size Chevy conversion van with the seats taken out so I can haul my jets and planes to events. I have driven to some events that were 16 hr drives, and I have never really noticed any adverse smell from the Kero or gas while driving. Even when the planes and full gas and Kero containers stay in my vehicle overnight at events. No problems. I do make sure containers are closed up tight. If there is a smell after the planes sit in a closed up vehicle after a long stay in high temperature days, it clears up with a short drive with the windows down.
I do try to keep the exterior of the fuel containers clean as well as clean the planes and jets from any fuel residues. I have used a van for my plane transportation needs for 25 yrs and it works out fine for me.

I have been useing these http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/...ow-Vent-System
The do a good job blocking the vent fumes, but I have been leaving them off as some times I forgot to remove them and remember when I hear the fuel tanks expanding (bad)

Some other people say my van smells of Kero. But I don't notice it. I think your sense of smell gets used to it over time. I used to work in a Fiberglass plant. Never noticed the smell of the resin, until I retired and went back to visit my co-workers. Then I could smell it. If the smell of jet fuel in the morning don't bother you or your spouse, who cares...........LOL

That's going to be a nice setup but can we see "The driveway from hell"? Funny, I'm probably going to move soon and whenever looking at a house on Realtor.com I speed skip through the upstairs pics and look for pics of the walkout basement. Priorities!

I would have to start backing up the trailer at the very top of the satellite pic. The straight is the same elevation, then it drops down. Cars are parked on the straight, making it even tighter. We're going to look into removing the gray retaining wall and all the landscaping. Wife had to have a view of the water, I had to have a big shop, land is at a premium in the Seattle area for houses like this. No big flat lots. I got a quote on a car turntable, might do that. These are first world problems for sure…lol I'm just stoked to have a shop where I won't have to trip over things and move stuff just to work on something else.

DrScoles,
I understand your problem totally. Attached is an overhead view of my house in Florida, and shows the "S" shaped driveway that I negotiate every time I come home with my 20 foot trailer.
I don't have walls on either side, but backing the trailer up is still a chore....especially in the dark. The security lights do a pretty good job, but I am looking through tinted windows in the Escalade.
My HOA prohibits trailers, boats, RV's, but mine is hidden from street view by the garages. The swamp to the west helps hide it too.
Congrats on getting the new pad.

Yeah, that looks like a tough one to navigate. This might work.

The turntable and a power dolly to maneuver your trailer is probably about the same as the sales tax on a new sprinter. You will smell the fuel and be unhappy. I bought a small gas plane to leave in my sedan delivery so i could fly after work and the smell is horrible after a day in the parking lot. So now it is back to electrics for after wirk flying. Long run the turntable will be nice to have if the parking is that tight.
