I already got everything fixed and ready to go again. Just need to find time to get to the field. I ended up attaching the stretch cord from the top main doors to the bottom main doors and they all close perfect now with allot of holding force. I think the stretchy cord is worn out and that's why the stock set up didn't work at all. Probably best to store this plane with the gear up so it does not stretch out the cords over time.
Luge good luck on the build. Let me know if you have any questions. It really does fly great with the K45. Cant wait to get back out and get this bird dialed in.

I have a set of new rc crafter gear if anyone needs .
I also have a robart nose retract ,but the nose oleo needs to be redrilled to fit it.
last item I have is a set of air force Sea scheme decals .
Make offer as I can't recall the original price.

Got the gear working good now along with the doors. Nose steering is not working well and I will need to move the servo to a different spot and redo the cables. Got 4 flights in yesterday and it flies well when moving fast and going in a straight line. Flies like its nose heavy witch it is when the fuel is ahead of the CG. Does not like rudder input and flies like crap inverted. So if you going to fly one limit it to an occasional roll and verticals with level flying. This aircraft is very challenging to fly and not for someone new to turbines. But if you love the A7 like many do its a great aircraft that needs to be respected for what it is and it will do fine.
I have some video my son took on his cell phone.I forgot my airpump at home so had no brakes. I tried to land a little early because I stepped in an ant pile near the pilot station. Towards the end of the flight they made it over to my leg and started biting the crap out of me. So messed up and did a go around then dorked up the landing lol. You can fly for about 5 mins with the 40 oz tank and have enough left for a go around. Each time I landed I had about 15% left in the tank. Also lost the top hatch on the last flight. Didn't realize it until I taxied back. So if anyone has one laying around let me know please. Does not look like fun to scratch build.

I know this jet is early in her lifespan as you are still getting her trimmed up and operating 100 percent (in between ant hill attacks) - but have you had an opportunity to dial in your good gyro yet? (Cortex or iGyro, NOT the Eagletree) Just wondering if that would tame some of the inverted handling issues as well as rudder coupling issues the jet may display in certain parts of the envelope and CG ranges. Since you are burning fuel in tanks not directly over the CG that might be part of the stability and control puzzle going on. IOW, what works for the first part of the flight may require some technique differences for control inputs as the CG shifts. The gyro would at least help mask that for a more consistent stability and control profile from an operating perspective. Even if it's not a purely optimum solution aerodynamically, it's dynamic and hopefully an easily usable one.

Eddie I tried a gyro in it at first but it was a bad unit so pulled it out and ran it with out a gyro for now just to get it out and dial it in. No doubt a gyro will make it fly a ton better. But as for inverted and other problems I am pretty sure its just the design of the wing and more of an A7 thing. She will fly around just find for normal pattern stuff and I am ok with that.

Kris,
Looks like you're getting it dialed in. It is QUICK! At the end of the day, the A-7 configuration just has some quarks about it, I'm sure the inverted flight difficulty is a by product of that. It's an airplane best flown as though you're sitting in it. It's not a yank and bank type of airframe. I'll see what I can do about finding a replacement hatch.

I figured this would be a plane that would mostly be for cruising around in circuits.
I'm curious, along with a second hand ARF, I also have a kit fuselage and I was wondering if anyone has the plans for the wings and tail feathers?

Thanks Chris! Jon has already been a big help. I think using a 3-axis gyro will tame a lot of the less than desirable flying characteristics. I have so many projects going right now, but I think this one will get pushed to the front of the line. I love my mini Avanti with the K45, looking forward to another small jet. Do you guys sell the retract package? I know I'm getting the struts from Jon, I need the actual retracts and (I think) wheels??? I have everything else I need.

If you have the struts (which is the part we definitely don't have) then my folks should be able to supply you with the remaining components that you'll need (air cylinders for mains, nose retract, and air control kit) to get them operational. Just give them a call or email.

I got the kit tonight. Thanks Jon! It is gorgeous. All the gear doors fit perfectly, it's just a very nice plane. Refreshing to see this kind of quality. Chris, how much of the duct can I remove? In the manual, it shows that it's cut up to the leading edge wing mount area, can I go farther forward?
Calling in the morning to order the rest of the stuff I need. How did you guys do brakes?

I'm not sure I understand needing to cut the inlet? I don't think that'll be necessary. If I remember right, Jon actually had a turbine version which has the smaller inlet? The DF version had a much larger inlet to mate to a 120mm fan.

I meant where it goes into the area under the wing. I cut it even with the mounting bolts. Might go a bit further forward on the bottom so I can put a component tray on the floor of the fuse right behind the nose gear.
Left a message with Jet Hangar… I've heard you have some pull there, hoping to get a return phone call soon ;-) ;-)

When I was flying my A-7 with the wren, I used Intairco wheels/brakes. They're a bit heavy, but worked well. Since converting it to electric, I've been using AirPower wheels and brakes from dreamworks. I'm not sure if they're still available, but they're lightweight and work well. I was able to fit them to Robart tires easily enough also.

Chris, talked to your dad, he should be invoicing me soon for the pipe and gear. What servos do you use? Is the weight savings with mini servos worth it? The manual says 70oz, a bunch of the smaller servos fall right around that.
I ordered the Intairco wheel and brake set from Dreamworks. They're an 1/8" smaller than the ones recommended, but the right axle size. Gotta have brakes where I fly.
