Brake Valve Recommendations/Reviews
I am ready to upgrade my brake valve and it seems all the feedback points to about 3 or 4. Other than the obvious, it seems a few only have a "true power off brake" Which seems to be the mechanical plunger types.
Any electronic valves working well out there that you guys like? When you turn off receiver power do they hold?
Just looking to read some feedback on what your experiences are.
BVM Smooth stop version 2
Xicoy
Jet Tronic
BLAH BLAH?
Thoughts?

UP 6 all the way for me.
The F16 has a electronic one and right before one of the practice flights at Topgun it decided it wanted to stay engaged. On take off noticed right away but ended up breaking a missile rail and had to fix . Took airplane back to pits and pushed the manual button on top a few times and it started working and has been fine since. But 2 times now its randomly decided to stick on.
Had an old smooth stop but never really liked it. Might have just been to old and not worked right.
UP6 has a great feel to it and simply works flawless every time.

Bought one of the BVM E-brakes recently and I am very happy with it's performance. Fully proportional and no airtanks . Stops my 16 pound F-86 on a 300 foot fabric runway with 100 feet to spare.

I've got a Jet-tronics and it has always worked and never leaked but the proportional mode is not as good as the UP6 IMO (which also never leaks). But you are right, the UP valves do add some weight which depending on the jet may be no issue if it needs nose weight as you typically put them up front.

One of my jets had the Jet Tronic valve. It worked fine for many years (5 +). When it stopped working, I replaced it with a simple on/off valve that I happen to have lying around (I think It was $ 12 from Tamjets). Figured this would be a temporary fix .... but it's still in there ( 3 years later) and works better than I thought it ever would. I use a little grease on the brake wheel o-rings to soften the stop.

The BVM e-Brake V2 is a great unit. It produces from 0 to 65 Lbs. of air pressure at full and is totally proportional.. There is no air tank or associated fittings, filler or pressure gauge required.
They will operate any and all of the brakes from BVM, Skymaster and many other brands.
BV has one in his new Fly Navy Ultra Bandit, and it does a great job.

Do know if the Bvm brake system would work with Robart 6" wheels and brakes?? The jet will be about 35lbs dry.
Thx Vin...

Ambient Air is trapped in the cylinder and system when the servo fully extends the arm. (brake off). That air is then compressed. You can put it on a slider, and it will either compress that air or take it away to your hearts content. I believe the servo needs to be fully off to draw air in. You must have full throws described in the instructions or it will not brake properly. I have my momentary button on my dx18 (I) setup with a mix to provide slow down braking for turns as well as the slider.

I have an airpower ev-1u and I do not like it. Its not proportional at all. it does do pulsing but its like slaming on the brakes then letting off then slamming again etc..
Maybe a pressure regulator is needed but that still sucks.
everytime I taxi around my taxi tank ends up flying off the jet if I have to stop.
Up6 is good but they do leak sometimes after sitting. Gotta keep an eye on it but that is the only complaint.

Ultra Bandit, Large skymaster Viper, bobcat. I would put it on my BVM f-16 but the valve that came with it is working well. Let me reiterate my last post. There is a hole on the cylinder where a nipple would normally go. That is where the air enters the system. As the servo pushes the piston past this hole, the air in the cylinder is trapped in the system. When you let the brakes off, the piston goes past the hole and allows all air to escape. It will lock up my tires if I want it to and is fully proportional with a small curved mix.
