I don't know what BVM e-gear use what battery, but I have a landing gear converted by down and locked and I use 2S Lipo. They run great from the start. I believe in Down and Locked manual says you can use from 6 V to 9 V, and they stated that 2S LifePo is the best.

You can use 2 cell Lipo (7.4V) or 2 cell LiFe (6.6V)... Of course it's much faster when using 2 cell Lipo. One word of caution is that if you use 2 cell Lipo make sure the door servos are "HV"... BVM recommends spektrum A4030

Enjoy...
