Default New Ultimate Jets product: Ultra Scale PNP Rafale

Hello all.

This is a short article to introduce a new product at Jets over Kentucky: the Ultimate Jets PNP 1/7 ultra scale Rafale.

This kit is based on the new Aviation Design Rafale, upgraded to MK II and brought to PNP status by Ultimate Jets.
The 1/7 scale Rafale is arguably one of the most scale kit on the market.

Aviation Design is the only company on the market to have had access to a real size Rafale in order to 3D laser scan it.
The file was processed and cleaned off to 1/20 mm then re-worked in CAD.

The molds were CAM produced in-house on AD large 5 axis CNC machine that is used for their aerospace projects.
The resulting model is true to scale to 1/10 th mm.

The plane is made in Czech republic using the best available European materials. High modulus carbon fiber, Finnish aero grade plywood and airex.
The fuselage is a standard non sandwich layup, whereas the wings and fin is produced from JWM winning airex vacuum sandwich.

All the formers and wings internals are CNC cut from super high quality Finnish plywood and laser aligned in the mold.
We purchase the plane as an empty shell and get it assembled in house by our aero certified mechanics in Houston.

The plane is built using the best hardware available. Robart HD ball links, in-house CNC machined fuel accessories and the industry leading JMP air trap.

The plane is fitted with high quality Spektrum servos that are purchased direct from Horizon and benefit from the full USA warranty and service.
The plane is painted in the regular French air force two tone grey scheme and is available with a wide array of ordnance.

The gear is provided by Behotec and feature the top-of-the-line C-50 e-tract for the mains and C-40 reverse with direct servo steering for the nose. The electric version of the Behotec is adapted in-house with custom hardware to fit the small Rafale.
Scale door liners are produced in Houston and assembled with scale door cinematic.
The aluminum struts are covered with ultra scale mockups in-house. I CAD designed these over the last 3 months. Every single nut and detail on the gear is reproduced to microscopic size ( 0.60 to 0.35 mm nuts ). The nose strut actuator is articulated but allows the nose gear to rotate for steering.

These parts are 3D printed to 50 micron resolution on my laser printer and super scaled, including a full scale harness as well as nomenclature. The strut covers are user replaceable in case of damage.

The brakes are the super progressive and powerful C-50 units modified to fit this gear with large super scale bespoke wheels.

Compared to the regular Aviation Design kit, our MK II version feature the following modifications:

Rudder cut ( the AD Jets Rafale does not have any rudder ) and articulated, with hidden torque rod and servo. Fin fully removable for transport with auto rudder disconnection.
Doors cut, scale articulated, with scale liners, hinges, attachment points and cinematic.
Canopy frame cut, transparent canopy glued, scale cockpit fitted and painted.
All servos and pushrod fitted: 7 Spektrum 6040/ 6150, 3 Spektrum 2050.
In-house designed MIL spec servo and gear harness fitted with our industry leading Ultimate Servo Connectors, HD silicon servo wires, wrap-around heat proof sleeve and PYCABS clips.
Full electric plane: Behotec e-tract and e-brake gear, servo controlled doors.
Super scale strut covers fitted and painted and fitted with full gear harness and stickers.
Ultra high quality Tamjets stainless steel/ Inconel Y pipe allowing the use of 100 to 140 N thrust engines.
Optional scale light kit including fitting.

The plane is on demo at Jets over Kentucky right now.
The product is available on our web site as ARF and PNP:

The one that is on display at JOK has not flown yet.

But this is a very well proven platform. This kit is derived from the MK I AD Rafale that has been built by hundreds of modelers around the World for the last 17 years.
This is certainly one of the best flying Rafale on the market.

Our version in MK II definition is slightly lighter and a lot better built than the older South American produced kit.
This new airframe is stronger, lighter and a lot more refined than the previous one.

Thanks Eddie.
I hope that we'll have quite a few around the US soon. So no need to go to a jet meet to see the plane!

I saw it in the raw ( fresh out of the box ) while in Mississippi afterburner and have to say it's a very well built bird. Great detail and precision cut wood etc. I used the cockpit kit in my current project.

Hi Buck.
What you saw was the empty shell. Well built indeed. However bare in mind that we add 40 hours of labor to this bird to bring it to ultra scale PNP with the laser printed details.
Our AMP is doing that job with the level of precision he is known for: full scale professional aviation quality...

Yea amigo, the bare bones is impressive. I'm thinking of adding the chaff/flare dispensers to my bird. I can't wait to fly with her in September.

Hi Chatty.
I am not sure if I'll be able to make it for jet Power.
I'll know this by the end of August.

Sorry Joe, we are flying out to BITW so we won't have any jets to display/fly. Maybe next year. This time we are bringing Weatronics radio systems and some other assorted items that we stock.

Tom you can get it as an ARF/kit where there is a lot to do in order to complete it and scale detail it out. Those options are on our website at www.ultimate-jets.net. For example, the ARF from AD does not have a rudder. The builder has to cut the rudder free from the vertical and finish it including rigging a servo with linkage for control. This is done for you on the p&p version, but the basic ARF leaves this to the builder.
