Default DX 18 service bulletin

How are the range checks going? I will do mine today. 1/2 mile is a long way for one person, have to get some of the buds to help me out. I just installed my DX 18 Stealth with telemetry on my new FB Dolphin and was going to do some trim flights today. Havent had any trouble with it on other jets but an being extra cautious.

We tested mine last week. I was over 1/2 mile away and it all checked out fine, using the carbon 9ch rx that came with the stealth

Just checked and there is no green sticker in mine. Can't see a reference to what hat may mean though??

No green dot in mine but it checked ok. The driver went over the hill more than 1/2 mile away without any problem. That is a long way to have a model from you....even a big one. Crisis averted.

Green dot means go fly. Not a problem for your radio. I received an email. Clink on the link then there is another link in the bulletin that walks you through the process.

After nearly losing my plane at JOK, and not finding the green dot in the battery compartment, my DX-18 gen 2 radio will be packed and sent back to Horizon Hobby at first light Monday morning.

Its all spelled out in the product bulletin which ones it applies to and how to do the range check. Mine was just fine and I then went and flew. DX18 Stealth.

Did your engine shut down? Did your telemetry record a failsafe? If it did, I would be concerned. If it didn't, your problem was not a failsafe and Horizon's bulletin does not apply.

Mike

Amazing after all the problems specktrum they can't still release a stable product. I suppose its time to release DSMX2 along with the spectrum DX-18 G3.

Quique was wise to switch to Futaba.

Engine shut down three time on earlier flights during my time at JOK. Also have landing gear set to retract if the radio system goes to failsafe, the gear collapse on three separate occasion while attempting a range check on a different model. Just switched this model from a 12x to the DX-18 a couple weeks prior to the JoK event and never experienced this problem on the other radio system. Don't know what the real issue might be, but will not trust my DX-18 until it is completely checked out.

Wow, cant believe you decided to fly despite that.... Did you use a logger when range checking? If not that is cheap insurance that your system is working correctly before you fly....

The gear collapse on my PC-21 and since the cause could not be immediately identified, the plane was never flown. The other model was an Aurora and it has been flown 25 times before the event, and more than 30 times during the event before experiencing a radio glitch. The model was grounded since the cause of the temporary signal lost could not be determined, and I became a spectator for the remainder of the event. Don't believe in putting people, property, or equipment at risk just to fly my toys. COMMON SENSE RULES!

Sure sounds like you may have one of the affected Dx-18's David. Glad you caught it on the ground.

I was getting a very high number of fades due to the amount of carbon in my FB Dolphin. This was not related to this problem but to help improve my signal strength I removed all the CF radio trays (looked good and were real stiff) and replaced the with aircraft ply. The fades went from 700-800 down to 50-75 on 2 satellites an 250 on the other 2. Much improved and after the range check I feel confident in my new DX8 Stealth. My range check was 1/2+ mile.

Paul,I honestly thought my Aurora was not going to make it back in one piece, got lucky on this one. Anyway, filled out the Horizon Service Request this morning and now waiting for the shipping label to be email to me. Currently removing the Specktrum system from the two planes that experienced the radio issues at JoK and installing my JR DMSS system so I can get back in the air. Thanks for spotting for me at JoK and will probably see you at Super Jet South.David
