Going to replace my control horns on my Avanti XXL and its hard to find large tail horns like you see on the big fast sport jets. I found some but they are fiberglass and I have only used carbon fiber. How do these hold up?
The horns I found are from SDShobbyusa, I have checked with the main jet hobby shops. Cannot seem to find any that will give me a 1-2 inch from control surface to attachment point. I need the tall horns to allow for clearance as I move my rod down closer to the servo arm

Why not just make your own from a carbon fiber plate?

Yeah that's hard with proper tools, and making 14 horns all the same with same hole alignment is more than I'm willing to do unless there is no other way.

Thanks I think I'm going to give the hobby king a try, not a fan of hobby king but 4mm thick carbon fiber at over an inch tall is what I need.

1.) BVM has horns that are good enough for the Ultra Bandit, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with the Avanti.
2.) I wouldn't trust an arm with holes in the center for a large jet.

Well I have had flutter twice now and destroyed two 150.00 servos and the only other thing I can change is the rod itself. Sm said they have had issues but I checked the rods tonight and they are pretty stiff rods. That being said they do flex and I'm going to replace them as well but I think the mechanical setup change I did to the rudder did help so I'm changing them all. It's frustrating since apparently I'm the only person getting flutter with the stock setup.

Keith,
I'm not sure how thick the fiberglass horns are, but I have in the past CA'd two fiberglass horns together to create a super strong horn that will support ball or clevis type links. Creating a set of these doubled horns for a centered ball link to reside is bullet proof. I would be more concerned about the support base for the horns than the actual horns themselves.

rgds,
keith

Click on my avanti build link at the bottom and go to the last page it has pics and has other people's setups as well. Which is odd because they uses stock setup as well.

Are you using short arms to maximize mechanical advantage?

no the short arms are part of the problem, im trying to get longer horns, which will allow me to go down further on the servo arms. I ordered some of these to replace the stock
I know I dont need to but im going to laminate the with carbon fiber just because I need to get rid of some resin before it goes bad They are about 1.5 inches tail

I ordered them from sdshobbyusa.net someone on flying giants put me on to these. I was going to go with Jtec but these are wider and have a better angle.

I came across this German company a few years ago, they make some superb servo arm and control surface horns which I have not found similar anywhere else. Made from a high temp carbon mix moulding these horns and arms are very strong, so easy to mount as you only have to drill holes not make slots, and best of all the servo arms and the horns are all Y ended so the ball link is supported both sides.

I've used them on my recent builds and are bullet proof.... loads of different sizes, reaches, heights etc.

They really are very good indeed.

Servo arms and high torque sets - brill.
