Thanks, although Ray is the one bringing this alive... I'm just the lowly builder.

A little history on the aircraft being modelled.
This aircraft was named "Really George" because its home base would be the 479th TFW at George AFB, California. Secondly it would be the plane flown by Wing Commander Col. George Laven Jr. who was a WWII P-38 ace with 5 victories. It was the The first C-model accepted by Tactical Air Command at the annual fighter weapons meet at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada, on 15 October 1958. The wild paint scheme evolved through various iterations eventually being banned by the Command authorities because it was too much!!

Hi Vin, Thanks...
Your right regarding the kit. I liked the scheme too much to be worried about the differences Although we may make a new C cockpit and seat at some stage.

Ha... so they are, good spot but too late now... they were a complete arse for Ray to mask as I remember. I shouldn't have given him the plastic model photos for the scheme.. doh!
Luckily its just for my pleasure and not a scale competition model...

Hi Greg,
Ray saw your post and couldn't live with the knowledge that it was wrong so he's going to change it, interestingly trying to find pictures of the scheme we found the same aircraft is a slightly different iteration showing the right side with the nose stripes in the direction we had painted. There must have been a split on the underside which is what we'll do also so its just one side to re-do.
It's what's good about these forums, the more eyes the better
Cheers, Alex

I would say both sides on the full size have the stripes oriented forward upper to lower aft. Direction should match the nose gear doors.

A very enjoyable afternoon spent with Ray having a look at progress. He's doing an amazing job! Most of the painted details have been applied then its onto burnishing the aluminium which gives an incredible effect once done.

Ray Habgood has really out done himself this time! A quick teaser shot of our Airworld F104 Starfighter and a very enjoyable day spent with Ray learning how he does it. Only some of the panels have had the treatment but it should all be complete in a few weeks. Can't wait...

Thanks guys...
Hi JC,
There are no operational LE flaps on the Airworld kit. Its a very thin wing so getting anything in there would be difficult as its closer to scale than other offerings.
