Well on the rudders I did not need allot of throw so I ordered the rods with very little bend. This gives you less throw and more torque. On the ailerons I needed more throw. It ended up being to much throw and a big time torque loss. So lost allot of resolution with reduced throw. It needed a bend with just a little more then the rudder ones but not as much as the ones I used on the ailerons. I had 30 degree bend on the rudders and 45 on the ailerons. I might have been able to do a 35 degree bend for the ailerons a custom bend. I just didnt feel good about the ailerons with the hidden linkages on the ailerons coupled with a 50 pound aircraft and a K300 going inside it.

I am debating whether to try to try them on my next plane and yours is the first real negative report I have seen (from someone who has actually installed them)

Thanks

Got a light coat of clear done on the bottom so when I take it out for the maiden next week the fuel vent won't strip my paint off.

Not sure if I mentioned it already but for my fuel vents I just have a brass tube hosoled into some wood glued inside the fuselage that drains out of the grills on the belly. So no visable drains.

Hey Kris, looking good!
Do you have any pics of the elevator neutral point position. Can find anything to go by. Thanks

I just put mine neutral in the middle. Figure its a good starting point. Don't think F15s need up like F16s do.

Kingtech 210 installed and engine run ups complete. All systems check ready for its first flight. Should be able to call it and airplane after Thursday when I do the first flight.

One BIG thing to note on this plane is the hardware for the vertical stabs that is used to secure the front needs large area washers to work properly. If you just install the bolts up through the bottom they dont do anything and need a big washer to grab the sides. To make sure you have it secured right leave the big clamps loose for the middle spar and install the front bolt and make sure its secured into the fuselage.

Doing runups I noticed this plane sounds amazing! I think its a combo of the K210 and the Tams pipe being made for a K300. What ever it is it sounds like the meanest RC jet I have ever herd. I will try and get someone to shoot some video after its all trimmed out and flying good after a few flights.

Still waiting on the replacement gear parts so I hope these will hold up for these flights. Catherine said they are in tooling and being made...

Nice work on the install, looking forward to a report from the maiden .. here's for a big success!

Thanks for the comment about the front of the vertical stabs .. I actually was a little worried about the CF rod and clamp being sufficient by itself .. I did not notice the threads in the front locator rod. So I think you may have saved my plane! Off to the parts bin to find some fender washers :-)

It came like that Bob lol. I am thinking about doing a hidden latch system on it in the future by using air cylinders to pull open the hatch latches operated by a BVM button valve and a tiny hole under the airbrake. But did not have time for all that yet.

I also already plumbed an air valve for bomb drop but didnt have time to install the dropping mechanisms yet. That is using my 18th channel all full

Well maiden didn't go so well..
Take off was great with easy rotation with all three tanks full. Aircraft flew great had it trimmed right away with just a few clicks. Inverted flight was also good. Plane flies like a dream. Was doing a slow pass about 4 mins into the flight and just after the end of the runway I slammed full throttle and poof white smoke flame out.

At the feild was at if your not near the runways you are in swamp or trees. I turned the plane hard To try and get it back and it was coming back to the runway but caught the trees.

By the sound it made I thought I would have nothing left. To my surprise the damage is fixable.

So today I start the repairs and going to get her back in the air. Going to remove the entire fuel system and install high flow fittings and lines also.

Sorry to see that Kris... Sounds similar to my F-18, my 210 shut off about the same time in the flight and I belly landed off the runway. The black box showed a really high PW at idle which can indicate to small of lines... I went with the MAP UAT, eliminated the T's, went to a double vent line and highflow fittings and lines all around. 5 flights at BITW and no problems and a much lower PW!

Vapor trail most likely means air bubble.

Not if he is running diesel, smoke after every shutdown. I run just because of that, it's a quick indicator to let you know you have a flame out...

Repairs are going well. Decided to start with the really bad area first around the left inlet area.

Brian you are right. Randy with jet A you are correct but with diesel just a normal shut down will have a smoke trail. The engine shut off with a speed low message and a screaming high PW of 1000 at shut down. Might be from and air bubble not sure.

The way I had my system set up was a big tank with 2 separate vents plumbed into the 2 saddle tanks with thier own 2 vents. No Ts and redundant even if one side was plugged up. Not taking any chances though and going all high flow. Removing the tanks revealed no faults in the fuel system. Still going to re-plumb it all high flow. I hope to have it flyable again in a few weeks then I will get to the bottom of it. Will make it look pretty after test flights.
