New Mini Xcalibur
#51
Well back to the mini Excalibur when I was speaking to the guy that had the Exclibur on his stand at Jet power he said and I quote it will not fly of grass with a P20. Or the P20 is not the best choice to use in this plane. I asked DW about this and his reply was bollocks. Dave when you have a P20 in it and you fly off grass put my name down for one however not the red with the Union Jack.

Was that a direct quote! :-)
But correct. Here is a size comparison to my Habu 32 P-20. The mini Xcalibur has lots more wing area.
It will be fine, I was told the Std Xcalibur would be rubbish with the P-60, luckily I have a clue ;-)

Union Jack.
That aside It will deffo fly of grass with a P20 provided the grass is reasonable. DW was right that comment was bollocks
My little Vortex 32 is excellent off grass and in many ways that is a very similar plane. People constantly seem to want to put too much power into jets

Its the Union Flag not the Union Jack.

Had the chance to fly the Mini on Saturday at our local grass strip. The grass had been cut, but it damp from overnight rain.
The day was 8-10mph wind at 30 degrees to the strip. Our flying area is quite restricted on Saturdays because of a gravel pit, but the Mini Xcalibur coped well with the conditions and site. I'm just about up to speed on the Futaba 18SZ Ripmax are using on this model, so i'm slowly tweaking the set up to suit my thumbs!
The J W Sprite turbine is an airstart, gas and glow plug turbine which needs many hands to start! We are going to put a P-20SX in it now and do another video.
As always with my flying style there is not much full power flying with this set up, its not a mini Bandit!

Looks very nice in the air. Looking forward to the results with the P20 in as that will be the real test. I was speaking to someone who recently spoke to Colin from RM and he told me availability Spring 2016 which would be nice

I know that no one (other than the Prototype) has this plane yet but it surprises me how much forum time the normal X and the X + are getting compared to this. Probably just because it is not out yet or could it be that not that many people have P20's or Kolibris. Come on Gaspar and the other mystery firm (My guess Kingtech) get that 35 Newton turbine out the door and these will sell like hot cakes

If you knew the process you would see that before the other two were released, there was also very little 'hype' it happens when it's released. RCU is one tiny part of the jet scene.
my pre orders are like the std size (more than the Plus). A binary number post on this forum...
I have single customers that have bought more than four P-20's so there are enough in England.

Got the chance to fly the Mini with a P-20SX today, uncut grass and very wet, hardly anywind, I guess today was the best test for the mini Xcalibur/P-20 combo. Take-off varied 50-60m was normal, I did one flight where a bump got it off in 40m, which proved how lightly loaded it is. It takes half a circuit to really get a rock-on, but five flights proved to me its a great combo. The biggest thing is the flight time. The Spirite turbine is set up with a heavy oil feed to ensure good bearing lube and as a result its heavy on the fuel consumption. The first flight I did I landed at the same timer around 5 minutes and had over half a tank! Later flights were 6.5-7 mins and this is how much fuel I had left! Beardy did a video so will get that posted next week in the office. The great thing is that you can fly a high tempo flight with the P-20 and still do 8 minutes which is great.
Winner!

Jus to add on post #63 #64
Just received my K45 serial #135 witch i will put in the mini Avanti.
This #135 again tells me that there really is an market for this size of air frame.
Really hope that Gaspar will step on the M35 cause in my opinion that will be The excellent combo for the Habu32x.
Unfortunately the P20 does not do the trick from short (length) gras fields :-(
Keep the small ones coming i would say, don't need to compensate, well hung enough :-)
Cheers,
Ed

P-20SX videos.
Model really does not need CROW, it dumps too much lift, the second landing with a few mm only is much better in such calm conditions.
Long flights are a real bonus with such a small model. 8-9 minutes going to be possible.

So that proves nicely that it has plenty of power on a P20 and while it looked to struggle a little bit to take off the grass conditions were quite testing. Excellent model for the P20

Been quietly flying the Mini Xcalibur prototype over the last couple of months, so easy and lots of fun.
Last weekend at our damp winter grass field it was joined by this P-20 powered HT Vampire.
This week sees the official launch of the Mini at Nuremberg Toy fair. The sports scheme will be shown for the first time...its a cracker!

I hope next month, Chinese New Year is looming, they need to ship before that starts, then it depends on the boat and seas.
RRP is £449.99 inc moulded tank and accessories, electric retract set-wheels included)
