Took the Mini today, tank pre-filled ready to go. After play large gas aerobats with a CARF Edge 540, grabbed it for one flight. Perfect grab and fly jet!

Billy. Look forward to wringing your Mini X's neck in a few weeks. I'll bring mine to keep it company!

Tobi Newton maidened his Mini X this weekend. Smaller models take a little longer to dial in, by the end of the weekend he was getting close.

Really wanted a new one of these but the budget wouldn't stretch to it. Got one second hand and flew it last weekend. Very impressed and great fun. Had a bit of a bounce on a landing and damaged the front plastic steering arm (thread stripped) and the centring spring snapped (might have been due to one of the steering cables snapping).

Anyway, managed to repair from spares box (not sure if you can buy the spares?) but I think lack of flap might be my main issue. Spent some time on it last night and I can't get anywhere near 65mm deflection stated in the manual. Has anyone else had any issues here?

The hinges for the flap look a bit strange to me. Are they glued in like that from the factory?

Looking forward to blasting it around on Sunday.

Cheers,
Simon

Hi simon
Yes that's how the hinges fit as per manual,
I had the same problem with the flap travel so I took the original one out and used hyspo and glued a new glass horn in approx 12 mm set at 45 degree forward , now I get the recommended 65 mm.

regards
ian

Well I guess I'm not as good with geometry as I thought. The previous owner has the biggest horn on the servo which will fit and even with 140% throw I can't get near 90 degrees or even 65 degrees stated in the manual.

Ian, I know it's a tight spot but could you get a picture of that horn?

Cheers

Toby,

Thanks for the picture. Is that shot of the servo when the flap is deployed?

Cheers

Think I've found the issue. My servo is glued in the position shown in instructions but yours and another friend who has sent a picture clearly shows that your servos are in a different place.

If you get 10 mins could you take one more picture with the flap up so I can get an idea of where the horn and linkage will be. Might make a new servo box tonight and glue it in the new position.

Its the way I did mine and Tobi/Paul did the same as the ply plate sits in the channel, just easier to glue.
The prototype is like yours and no issues getting the angle.

That big chunky swing keeper is probably the problem. Z bend!

Dave,

I've tried it with a different rod just using the z bend. The servo just doesn't swing far enough to give enough throw. I didn't build it so it could be that my servo is slightly off, but as it currently sits I can go from closed to about 55mm deflection.

Will make up another mounting ting box and see if it improves. Want to fly it tomorrow so will try and sort out later.

Thanks for the photo.

Dave,

Travel up to max. I've managed to get 60mm deflection with servo in current position. Will just live with that as without breaking something I couldn't coax the servo out of its mount.

Two flights from the grass strip I fly at. Bloody great fun. Think I'm a bit nose heavy but not enough to worry about. Going to take the crow off as I don't think it needs it.

Dave,

I've watched that a few times. I think I'm a little nose heavy, felt like I was running out of elevator in the last half a foot. Might be just chopping the turbine a bit too early but either way I'm not fussed. Had three great flights, flies on rails and has enough grunt for a bit of jet fun at my local field.

Just need to get my hands on some 1/32" piano wire to make another steering spring for front retract as the wire I've used is just a little to stiff for what it needs to do.

I like it that much I think I'm going to sell the Xcalibur Plus.

All Mini Xcaliburs end up nose heavy full of fuel, iGyro 3e in heading hold sorts that for aerobatics.
