Looks like a fun little plane.. And well I think this will be my next project later this year. But I´ll be using a Kolibri T35 , Atm, the turbine is installed in my FMS 70mm Avanti, which awaits it´s first startup and testing.
I see that you fly off grass with a P20 , and that´s good news since our field is grass too, two runways 60 and 80 meters long, I guess that will be just perfect for this plane.
So far I will order the airplane within a month or two, I haven't decided yet which servos to use etc. But probably will go with Hitec or Futaba..
Any tips recommendations etc?
Best regards
/Kenneth

I'm not sure there will be much left of the turbine after the test flight, I'd say the 70mm Avanti is too small for any turbine! I fly one with 3900 6s and its a great set up, Its too heavily loaded with a 5000 6s Li-Po
The Mini Xcalibur will be nicely powered with the T-35, just keep it light throughout. These mini turbine models don't accept anything that is not absolutely necessary.
Mini Hitec's don't centre, Futaba would be OK, but KST or MKS types around 3kg torque are what ours use. Powerbox Digi Switch with a 1600 2s Rx Li-Po

Thanks guys for the replies!
This is my third Avanti I own, the other two I used 3300mah 6s and they flew nice. The second one was the one that I was about to convert to turbine, but stalled it and went back to kit form. ;-) Anyway, a friend of mine did the first conversion but used Kolibri T25 (Henrik Torphammar), but yea.. mine is abit over powered, but should hold up as long as I take it easy.
But back to the Xcalibur.. KST or MKS , Ill look them up found some of them atleast here in Sweden.. not too expensive either.
Oh well, Ill search and see what I could find. I´ve got until summer so..
Thanks again!

Sorry bout new question, but I´ve found some MKS servos for a quite good price The MKS DS6188 2.7kg at 5.5volts , and weigth ca 17grams each. Are those a good match for the Mini Xcalibur?

could work but those are only 6v max servos. myself i would choose a hv servo and use 2s lipo pack.. more holding ower at high speeds and better use of the ma in battery you choose. keep things light and small only as needed. i suggest a battery pack of enough size for two flights safe and recharge top off between flights. you will only need rx pack and turbine pack

He will need nose weight, so small batteries don't make sense. All the Mini's I've built have a 2200 2s Li-Po ECU and a 1600mah 2s Li-Po through a Powerbox Digi switch. At 5.9v output I get 18-20 flights per charge!

Dave, I see you running 6v system from your powerbox.. I´ll assume that the servos I look at, will do just perfectly. HV are a bit expensive at least when it comes to servos with good reputation/brand and especially here in Sweden .Ripmax´s instruction recommends their own Quartz brand, wich to me looks like some budget servos equivalent to Emax ones.
I´ll go with the MKS I´ve found due good price and their availability at the onlineshop.
2200 and 1600 lipos them I have some of

For anyone in the USA interested in buying a Mini Xcalibur, Slough Radio Control Models in the U.K. can ship to most of the USA for around £60.00, as the box is fairly compact and light.
Contact them at [email protected], or have a look at their website at Slough Radio Control Models
Currently they have both versions of the model in stock.

I´ve got mine today, I ordered from the Swedish division of Conrad.de (the german online store). But came in a shipping box from Ripmax.
Got the sport colored variant. Looks nice, but the factory has used a lot of glue inside the fuselage. I plan to build this in March/April as I need to try the turbine first and so on..and atm it´s just too cold outside.
Servos are settled, won´t be MKS or KST I´ve found Savöx that will suit fine, and not much more expensive than say Emax/cheaply thingys.
When the build starts, I´ll return here to post updates.

I got mine today. Ordered it through Slough RC and got here (west coast - USA) in 3 days. I have a P20 but I might consider a 30. Has anyone looked or used the new Jet Mount 30 - 70 which can be used as 30 as well? It is heavier than the King Tech 30. I want this plane for regular use and our local field is semi rough grass and I am worried that P20 might not do well. Of course, bigger turbines will be heavier and need more fuel so it might end up to be a wash.

Hmm, that´s one heavy turbine. ;-) Since I´ve not built my Xcalibur yet.. but I do have read about it alot.. and I´ve noticed that you want to build the aircraft as light as possible. It is a small plane..
My T35 kolibri is 265grams so I´m gonna need a lot less of mass in the front to keep the CG, your turbine seems to weigh about 400grams more than mine.. so to keep your CG right I´ll guess that you´ll need to have alot of mass in your nose. Like batteries and such.
You might want to consider to use a lighter turbine.. If you read from the very beginning of this thread, it seems that a JetCat P20 would do just fine, even from grass.
But this are just guess work from my side.. but as a general a lighter airframe is always better ;-)

If you watch the grass, it's just after winter here in UK and I was taking off across the ridges. There was a breeze and that helps, but even in flat calm it took off this strip in 40-50m. Light is everything, none of these pointless heavy bubble traps, aluminium brackets for valves. Just a Powerbox Digi switch, Rx and iGyro 3e

Hi Dave, thank you. Based on this, I will go ahead and use my P20. Can always change later if it is needed. I appreciate all the inputs.
Kenneth, noted as well.
Thank you again.

One thing to note is a 1/8” packer under the nose retract to raise the nose makes an amazing difference on the take off roll grass and tarmac
