The adds and advertising on this website are beyond distracting. Won't let me enjoy the videos and search without any pop ups.

If the owners need money, that's one of the ways to do it.
They don't give a sssst. about us.

You have a forum that's free to use but costs the owners money to host and maintain.

That pays the bills

The adds are ridiculous but the formatting is abysmal. A school kid could do far better.

@barracudahockey

Yes but if you make it slow to load, full of spam ads & don't listen to the people who use it they will eventually drift elsewhere. How to kill a forum lesson 1.1?

just saying..

There are ways to view the forum without the ads.
I use my ipad and have the dolphin browser, it's another type of web browser. Within the settings you can select 'Block Ads' and then these ads no longer appear. You can also use dolphin browser in desktop mode, like a normal computer, if you don't want to view a site as a mobile site.

Really? The first post on this thread, by Sysiek, has on my monitor a big ad for ebay, right inside the post. That is as well as the sidebar on the right full of ads.

Oh what a disatrous turn of events. ADS on a free forum.
Our world is falling apart and this is what people complain about. Don't like the ads? Don't look at them. Affects download speed? On a phone maybe. Certainly not on my laptop and I have a slow connection. Pay a monthly/annual fee? No way, I'll take the ads.

Guys, there's any easy way to surf the web without annoying ads:

Are you using Google Chrome? Go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/apps and search for "Adblock". Install the freeware app, a donation is welcome but not required.

Are you using Internet Explorer? Go to https://adblockplus.org/ and install the freeware app.

Are you using Mozilla Firefox? Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/ and search for "Adblock plus". Install the freeware app.

Use Chrome with adblock as your browser. I didn't know what you guys were talking about until I turned the adblock off to see what the fuss was about. It's free too!

Something has definitely changed here. They have opened up some kind of door or something to allow embedded ads.
I can deal with the ads, it is their placement that is an issue, a big one.
It embeds an ad within a post that can cause the post to display 3 words in width but 103 words in length. That is just silly.
I already have popups and ad blockers running and I refuse do add anything else just for this one forum.

Sorry guys, I do not understand your whining. First of all it is quite understandable that the owners of this forum try to refinance their server hosting cost somehow, I bet that the few paid spots in the classifieds section are not enough. Just scroll up a few posts and you'll see numerous suggestions on FREE browser plugins to stop the advertisements.

It takes you longer to type your post here than to install one of these FREE plugins! It's not rocket science and I bet that RC modelers have enough computer knowledge to do a few mouse clicks.

I've been using adblock plus on various browsers for the last 6 or 7 years. IT'S GREAT! I've got it on Chrome now. I had been wondering why there was so much white spacing in the forums here lately. Now I know.

You can set Adblock up to see a few ads, or to see NO ads. Your choice.

Adblock will show you how many ads it blocks when the browser loads a page. When I loaded this page, it blocked 15 ads. Other sites, it will block 30 or 40. Just depends on how greedy the site is.

I know that the sites require the income to support the site. But it can be overdone, as with TV. I've almost quit watching TV due to the ever-increasing frequency and length of ads. If the internet gets the same way, I'll be done with it too.

Concur. Let's stop the whining about our free stuff not being exactly to taste. If we were dues paying members it would be a different story.
