It's looking really good Rav!!!!

Glad you were able to incorporate my idea of using the Firgelli actuator into the operation of the opening canopy.

Good luck with the Maiden when ever that happens. You will love the way the plane flies..

Thanks guys.

Here's a pic of her all finished up and ready to fly. I even got a bottom strobe light in this pic!

Very nice Ravill.. The sky blazers scheme is gorgeous. Although I'm wondering why there is no Storm Trouper up front??

I'll be very interested to hear how this compares to the F-100..

Same, I'd be interested to know how the F-86 flies compared to the F-100. F-100 flies so nice!

I maidened my big 86 yesterday.

One word: Awesome.

Really what else can you expect from Uncle Bob.

I have a few observations of the big Sabre.

I really, like REALLY, over powered it with a K180. The first take off seemed like it took off in 10 ft! It only needed 1/2 throttle for take off.

BV nailed the CG too. It flew VERY light and axial rolls in the saber are very true.

Just like every Sabre I've ever flown I had to go to idle on my base turn. I usually like to have a little more throttle control so in the subsequent flights I was deploying the airbrakes earlier and earlier, and by the 8th flight, I was deploying them downwind. That helped it feel like it needed a little power on approach so I could spot my touch down. That made the approach feel more like the F-100.

It needed ZERO trim to fly through out the whole flight.

I had a little dutch roll excess on a few landings as my gyro gain was too low. I ran out of channels with my 12x so I have to get to the rudder gyro (JR 410) and increase the gain manually. I also need to manually adjust the trim on the nose wheel as, again, I'm out of channels on my 12x.

Sigh...Come on Jeti, get that DS-24 out already.

Jack Diaz Sr. recommended some reflex of the ailerons mixed in with the elevators, which sounded genius as I've had Sabres just tip stall as they are touching down, this seemed to help that. As I was getting some dutch roll it was hard to really tease that out. I'm sure when I turn up my rudder gyro I'll get a good sense of it.

Regarding it flying like the 100, well the 100 can fly fast, real fast. I don't think I would want to push the 86 to try to fly at those speeds, but, like the 100, it flies really light, BV's elevator recommendations are a touch "hot", and with the airbrakes out, it is an "on power" approach like the 100. By the 8th flight I was able to do those lllllloooonnnngggg scale takes offs, but unlike the F-100 which does that take off naturally, I had to practice a bit for those take offs.

F-86's are real sweet-heart airplanes and this new one from Bob didn't fail to deliver.

Oh, and the smoke system was awesome, I didn't get any pics of the smoke though! Next time maybe!

Very nice, congrats. How did you find the recommended aileron throws?

Thanks guys!

I found the ailerons a touch too authoritative, but not nearly as hot as the elevator. And I don't do expo either.

Funny I like a lot of elevator and always found BVs elevator about right. But his aileron throw is always about 2X to my taste!

And no expo, you are a man's man! You know, zero expo on a rotary to linear conversion is actually like reverse expo, you need some just to back get to linear response.

Anyway way to go, I tried to buy a big F-86 kit from them last year and they wont or cant sell them, I cant bring myself to scale ARF but if did it would be 100% the big F-86, color me jelly

Beautiful airplane. We have the same kit/scheme for sale. Kit is unstarted and has the speed boards and electric gear. Contact LA Jets (David) here in RCU for details. You will not find a better deal on this particular airframe.

Congrats Rav, the sabre looks fantastic and the reports so far sound very promising. A great addition to your fleet! Thanks for sharing.

Matt, I think those guys have the same as this ARF, not a kit.

I've only found BV's elevator's to be hot with his scale kits, on the sport jets, I've really liked his throws and CG's.

And thanks man!

And thank you too Sean!

Very Nice Ravill. Thanks for the report..

I guess the 86 has a bit more wing, and/or a bit less loaded then the 100.. Plus I think the 100, with is 45deg wing sweep, has a bit more drag when slowed down, which make is a "throttle on" model in the pattern.. These are quite different machines.

Man you have some great weather in California!! ..
